Overview
Head of Finance for the commercial real estate industry, overseeing strategy, accounting, administration and technology Position Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant will play a key role in the financial management and reporting of a commercial property portfolio. This position is responsible for performing daily and monthly accounting tasks, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable processing, mortgage oversight, financial statement preparation, CAM Reconciliations and tax and escrow tracking. The Senior Staff Accountant works closely with Property Managers and Asset Managers to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations. Key Responsibilities
Perform daily bank balance reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies. Enter and manage accounts payable invoices, including recurring payments such as loans and utilities. Prepare monthly financial statements for Property Manager (PM) review, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Distribute monthly owner statements via the company’s owner portal. Update and review mortgage statements and maintain the mortgage schedule for all properties. Analyze and review annual mortgage escrow statements and ensure compliance with lender requirements. Prepare and process monthly owner draws, in accordance with property cash flow and budget. Upload and maintain approved property budgets in the accounting system. Maintain a property tax schedule, process bi-annual tax payments, and ensure timely compliance. Maintain and update the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) tax schedule, processing payments as needed. Prepare annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations for review by Property Managers and Asset Managers. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial property management. Strong understanding of GAAP and property management accounting principles. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar platforms). Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Preferred Skills
Experience with real estate financial reporting, including CAM reconciliations. Familiarity with loan amortization and escrow processes. Knowledge of property tax and FTB filing processes. Seniority level
