Assistant General Counsel (General Counsel I) role at Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). CPRIT leads the state in cancer prevention and research initiatives. The agency directs a multi‑billion dollar program supporting academic research, prevention, and product development related to cancer treatments and prevention best practices. Summary

Performs moderately complex legal work involving interpreting laws, procedures, and rules. Works involves planning and organizing work, preparing legal documents, rendering advice, drafting memoranda and administrative rules for the Texas Register. Assists the agency with reviewing procurement contracts and drafting and reviewing agreements. This position reports directly to the General Counsel, working under general supervision, with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The position may telework up to a maximum of 20 hours in a 40-hour week hybrid schedule, at management’s discretion based on business needs. Responsibilities

Interpret laws, procedures, and rules; prepare legal documents and memoranda. Draft and review contracts, procurement documents, and agreements; provide legal advice to the agency. Draft administrative rules for the Texas Register; assist in regulatory and compliance matters. Support procurement activities and respond to related requests as part of the legal team. Work under general supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. degree. Licensed to practice law in Texas; member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Minimum of three (3) years of legal work experience as a licensed attorney at a Texas state agency. Experience working on state agency procurements, Public Information Act requests, and drafting contract agreements. Knowledge of the Texas Public Information Act and other open government laws; knowledge of Texas procurement laws and rules; knowledge of administrative law; knowledge of state government contract law. Location: Austin, Texas (Texas Hill Country region adjacent; agency operations in Austin). Salary range: $76,530 - $129,430 per year. Schedule: Monday–Friday; hybrid telework up to 20 hours per week may be available. Closing date: October 8, 2025.
