Principal Systems Engineer
PCG supports the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) to ensure the defense acquisition community has suitable Research and Engineering capability to help define, develop, cost, test, produce, operate, and sustain defense systems throughout all phases of the acquisition life cycle. OSD develops and implements policy for all OUSD(R&E) areas of responsibility; works to build/maintain the workforce's currency, capability, and capacity; and continually maintains substantive technical engagement with Component organizations throughout the acquisition life cycles of major and selected acquisition programs. Additional engagements across government, industry, and academia help shape the future of DoD research and engineering.

Principal Systems Engineer
with experience in defense weapon systems and acquisition policy to join our energized team in support of a variety of programs.
As a mid-level member of the team, you will assist OUSD(R&E) in advancing the practice of Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) engineering focused on the sustainment of reliable and maintainable weapon systems. You will regularly work with the R&M community of practice and DoD senior executives. You will review OUSD(R&E) modernization priorities and related technologies, legislation, policies, procedures, practices, guidance, standards, handbooks, tools, DoD workforce skills and training, in coordination with OUSD(R&E) organizations, DoD Components, other federal agencies, and academic and industry partners. Highly qualified candidates will have additional experience with model-based systems engineering and/or software development (to include software reliability).
This position is hybrid remote with on-site work located in Alexandria, VA. The candidate must reside in the Capital Region (NCR). This position will require successful adjudication of the Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a DoD common access card.
Responsibilities
Support the government Director to prepare, coordinate, collaborate, and participate in sustainment initiatives.
Provide subject matter expertise in the development and implementation of the R&M Body of Knowledge and related workforce training courses.
Support the annual R&M Symposium (RAMS) by preparing workshops, briefings, and supporting the OUSD(R&E) participation in RAMS.
Support the instantiation of Model-Based Systems Engineering and SysML into R&M Engineering activities.
Conduct analysis of alternatives (AoA) to support the recommendation of approaches, tools, and technologies for development of new analytics, including data- and event-driven analytics supporting R&M engineering.
Collaborate with various engineering teams to support requirements definition, integration, and deployment of newly developed capabilities.
Prepare presentations and other materials to support project functions. Draft correspondence, reports, white papers, minutes, spreadsheets, communications products, briefs, and other documentation.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Active Secret clearance.
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of nine (9) years' experience; Master's degree with a minimum of seven (7) years' experience.
Bachelor's degree in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline that is relevant to engineering.
Minimum of ten (10) years of specialty engineering experience focused on R&M engineering and able to identify and address DoD acquisition risks, issues or opportunities.
Must be able to work both independently and with a multi-disciplinary team to execute work tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated experience in planning, briefing, and coordinating senior-level technical reviews, panels, or similar meetings with diverse participants.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to convey complex ideas and theories to technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience with government, industry, or academia in the R&M Engineering discipline.
Expertise in utilizing Microsoft Office tools and functionality effectively.
Knowledge of DOD 5000 documentation guiding defense acquisition engineering processes.
Experience supporting US Federal Government agencies and processes.
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools (i.e., SysML tools), OMG-Certified SysML Professional (OCSMP) is a plus.
Experience with data analysis software (e.g., miniTab, R, SPSS).
