Senior Staff Engineer- Service Infrastructure at Stripe. Service Infrastructure drives Stripe’s internal abstraction ecosystem to enable scale, performance, and reliability for Stripe’s products. What you’ll do Drive the technical vision of Stripe’s service infrastructure for thousands of engineers in a highly autonomous environment. Design and deliver capabilities, abstractions, and tools that provide a world-class developer experience and advance Stripe’s infrastructure for reliability and performance. Collaborate with engineers across the company to design and build large-scale capabilities while enhancing internal engineering standards, tooling, and processes. Operate with a strong user focus, translating business needs into engineering plans that deliver high-impact results. Lead and mentor, fostering technical leadership and a culture of excellence. Identify and remediate architectural limitations to enable Stripe’s goals. Debug production issues across services and stack levels; promote collaboration and knowledge sharing. Responsibilities Lead the design, planning, construction, and maintenance of Service Infrastructure frameworks and SDKs used across Stripe. Identify infrastructure needs across Stripe, prioritize short-term and long-term solutions in collaboration with leadership. Influence and participate in company-level roadmap planning and prioritization. Drive project execution across the full development lifecycle with high standards of quality and timely delivery. Facilitate technical discussions and decisions across the Infrastructure organization and product teams. Foster a culture of technical excellence, mentoring the next generation of technical leaders. Fix architectural limitations and ensure scalability and reliability. Maintain an inclusive, collaborative work environment that supports innovation and continuous improvement. Who you are
Minimum Requirements 15+ years of professional experience in an infrastructure-focused software development role. Experience leading engineering teams on API design, abstractions, frameworks, or developer products. Strong background in distributed infrastructure/platform services (e.g., developer-facing abstractions, productivity tooling, storage, databases, compute). Experience leading cross-team and company-wide projects. Experience scaling and migrating systems with minimal downtime. Experience mentoring engineers at various career stages. Experience driving operational excellence with metrics, alerts, and dashboards. Proven track record of delivering pragmatic solutions that accelerate business growth. Autonomy, responsibility, and strong written and verbal communication. Proficient in at least one of Stripe’s core languages (Java, Ruby, Python, Go). Preferred Qualifications Strong communication skills for leadership, users, and the company. Experience with infrastructure platforms (databases, logging, event streams, metrics, caching, etc.). Experience leading partially remote teams. Experience developing sustainable in-house framework and abstraction ecosystems in large orgs. Experience building serverless platforms. Experience managing rigorous incident response and on-call rotations. In-office expectations

The annual US base salary range for this role is $267,000 - $400,400. Salary ranges may be narrowed during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants outside the US may request the salary range for their location during the interview process. Additional benefits may include equity, bonuses or commissions, 401(k), medical/dental/vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
