Overview
The Chief of Advancement & Public Strategies Officer (CAPSO) position encompasses both advancement (fundraising, donor relations, development) and public strategies (marketing, communications, public relations, government relations, volunteers, and community engagement).
The CAPSO partners closely with the Interim/President & CEO and the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors. As an executive team member, the CAPSO will help drive HAWC's mission and lead a staff of 10 to operationalize the organization’s advancement and public strategies in alignment with the strategic plan.
This role is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive plan for setting strategic direction for the division and providing day-to-day oversight and management of all advancement and public strategies operations and develops and implements long-term and annual fundraising plans including but not limited to major gifts, grant solicitations, in-kind resources, special events, annual campaigns, community partner events, planned giving, and charitable estate planning.
Your Schedule:
Full Time
Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. or 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.
Flexibility to work evenings and Saturdays as needed.
Work Model: Hybrid
Local Travel: 30-50%
Compensation & Benefits:
Annual Compensation: $170,000
Pay schedule: semi-monthly

Qualifications The Requirements We are Seeking:
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree or CFRE strongly preferred
A minimum of ten years professional fundraising or directly related experience
A minimum of five years in a management/leadership role
Understanding and sensitivity towards the issues of sexual and domestic violence
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams) and ability to work effectively virtually in a hybrid work model
Experience in donor management software (Raiser’s Edge)
Computer savvy with the ability to learn new systems quickly
Professional English
Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record; reliable transportation; ability to travel to off-site locations
What You Deliver in this Role Fundraising and Development:
Foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization, engaging the board, staff, and volunteers in fundraising efforts. Develop and implement strategies to increase donor engagement and retention.
Establish and implement the infrastructure to grow in the first year an $8M budget through major gifts, events, and corporate/foundation support. Prioritize cultivating recurring donors and diverse revenue streams, division operations, and a corporate/foundation relations program.
Oversee activities related to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual, major, and planned gifts from diverse sources.
Build a robust donor pipeline through research and networking; expand and diversify HAWC’s donor base.
Forge new relationships to increase visibility, impact, finances, and sustainability; lead a programmatic fundraising model including corporations, foundations, individual gifts, and donor communications.
Assist with board recruitment for fundraising involvement and training.
Collaborate with board, staff, and donors to identify funding opportunities; coordinate with colleagues to leverage existing relationships.
Monitor the division’s budget and analyze donor reports (Raiser’s Edge); inform leadership of trends and opportunities.
Design major gifts, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and capital campaign strategies in partnership with the CEO.
Maintain accountability standards and compliance with ethical principles; prepare regular fundraising reports and projections.
Internal & External Relations:
Identify challenges and opportunities; develop media and communications strategies to support organizational goals.
Manage relationships with media, government agencies, community leaders, and the public to enhance reputation and reach.
Marketing and Communications:
Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance HAWC’s brand and raise program visibility.
Foster a positive reputation with transparent, consistent communications; ensure messaging remains professional and impactful.
Oversee board, constituent, and stakeholder communications; develop crisis communications.
Manage the team’s execution of strategic communication plans, media relations, social media, branding, and public relations; provide marketing guidance and branding support to internal departments.
Leadership and Team Management:
Set performance goals, priorities, and conduct annual appraisals; administer salary adjustments.
Promote high performance and continuous improvement; mentor and develop staff.
Cross-Functional
Collaborate with the CFO to align revenue and budget goals with financial sustainability and growth; ensure accurate financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with board policies, donor regulations, and applicable laws; train staff and volunteers on development best practices.
Strategic Partnerships, Volunteers & Donors
Manage donor relationships in the $50,000–$100,000 range, including strategy, cultivation, solicitation, data tracking, and stewardship.
Oversee gift acknowledgment, tracking, stewardship, and database management; ensure donor restrictions are documented and communicated to finance.
Oversee pledge entries, billing, and reporting; ensure collection of past due pledges.
Develop fundraising strategies with volunteers and supervise team implementation.
