Senior Attorney - Labor & Employment at Chicago Transit Authority. Salary: $115,000 - $130,000 Position Summary
Under general supervision, performs a broad variety of legal duties in support of the Authority’s General Counsel. Represents the Authority in employment litigation and labor arbitrations and provides advice on labor and employment matters to various departments within the Authority. Primary Responsibilities
Plans, directs, and participates in legal matters as they relate to employment and labor issues and other matters on behalf of the Authority. Handles own caseload of cases and other matters. Initiates, researches, and drafts pleadings, discovery requests and responses, briefs, and internal memoranda. Makes frequent appearances before courts and administrative agencies. Obtains and defends depositions and conducts other discovery. Prepares witnesses for depositions, hearings, arbitrations and trials. Provides advice to management on labor/employment matters. Caseload shifting may occur from high-volume to fewer, more substantial cases, which require more sophisticated strategies and legal analysis. Works with more senior attorneys in a "second chair" capacity on large litigation, labor/employment, and other matters. Typically prepares and responds to discovery requests, examines witnesses, drafts and argues motions, and researches issues. Conducts research to advise client departments. May provide advice and counsel directly to client departments. Attends professional group meetings and stays current with new legal developments, trends, and innovations. Manages work of paralegals and other support staff assigned to projects. Verifies work for accuracy and compliance with legal standards. Performs related duties as assigned. Education/Experience
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in Illinois, plus three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney, with at least one (1) year specializing in employment or labor law, or an equivalent education/experience. Continuing legal education credits are required. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Detailed knowledge of applicable federal and state laws. Strong drafting, editing and research skills; attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines; leadership and teamwork capabilities. Ability to provide effective solutions with integrity, initiative, and creativity. Ability to coordinate multiple requests simultaneously and to work with client departments at all levels. Working Conditions
General office environment. Regular site visits to non-office locations (e.g., court and CTA field locations). Equipment and Tools
Standard office equipment, personal computer, telephone, trial visual aids, online legal research, and litigation support software. Additional Details
