Teen Leadership Coordinator (University Village Albany) (4128U), Recreation and Wellbeing UC Berkeley Youth Recreation (formerly Cal Youth Camps) leads the way in providing summer camps for kids of all ages. Located on the UC Berkeley campus for more than 60 years, we offer high-caliber, impactful, and fun camps. SUPPORT & COACHING Provide guidance and constructive feedback to junior staff during camp operations. Guide staff (Junior Counselors and Counselors-in-Training) on creating and executing lesson plans. Provide training, support, and coaching to staff in assigned camp programs, with direction and feedback as needed. Assist with the development of in-person staff training. Maintain and promote the health, safety, and well-being of camp staff. Organize, implement, and document a professional development program, including weekly staff meetings. Ensure staff understand and follow the Recreational Sports Department and UC Berkeley policies and procedures, while delivering a safe, fun, and educational experience for youth campers/participants. Help campers and staff adjust to camp life and to one another. Motivate campers and staff to participate enthusiastically in all programs and activities. ADMINISTRATIVE Create schedules for CILTs and collaborate with the Leadership Team to create schedules for Junior Counselors and Counselors in Training, optimizing staff effectiveness. Conduct midsummer check-ins with staff to provide positive feedback and constructive guidance. Complete end-of-summer evaluations for staff, sharing a copy with employees and keeping a copy for internal reference. Prepare, maintain, and process forms and paperwork (e.g., rosters, timesheets, inventory, staff files) accurately and promptly. Complete Accident Reports, Incident Reports, and CANRA forms when needed, and alert supervisors as appropriate. Coordinate with Youth Programs Coordinator on customer service, facility, program development, and staff supervision. Keep equipment, binders, and supplies organized and properly stored. PROGRAMMATIC Develop general recreational lesson plan/curriculum standards for CILTs, using historical plans as reference. Be actively present around facilities, monitoring day-to-day activities as a visible leadership staff member. Identify opportunities to improve the program and share feedback in leadership meetings or with the Youth Programs Coordinator and Youth Camps Supervisor. Assist with, lead, and/or participate in all special events, staff meetings, theme days, and programs assigned by the leadership team or supervisor. Complete miscellaneous tasks to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Organize and run parent orientations. Promote theme days or group traditions to foster unity and enjoyment among campers and staff. Communicate progress or concerns about CILTs to parents. Administer First Aid/CPR as trained and certified. Ensure staff have safe and appropriate equipment and supplies. Develop and manage a system to return lost and found items to participants. Adapt to new situations and changes as needed. MISCELLANEOUS Display professional behavior around campers, parents, and staff. Accept constructive feedback and make necessary corrections. Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and sensitivity in all interactions. Follow camp policies and procedures, including wearing the required uniform and adhering to the work schedule. Fill in for camp staff as needed and maintain a supportive environment for campers and staff. Complete tasks in a timely manner as requested by the supervisor. Perform miscellaneous tasks as requested by the supervisor. Required Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of and/or ability to learn program activities. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills for a lead role. Creative problem-solving, service orientation, program management, sound judgment, decision-making, and critical thinking skills. At least one year (12 months) of experience in recreational or educational programs for youth. Knowledge of lesson planning and skill progression. Ability to work effectively across program levels and with internal and external partners. Passion for working with youth, and highly effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in basic computer applications. Knowledge of campus policies and procedures; some knowledge of Youth Recreation Programs and structure. Education/Training

High school diploma or equivalent certification/experience/training. Current American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR, AED, First-Aid, Epi-Pen + Asthma certification (or agree to complete upon hire). Preferred Qualifications

Prior management experience. Experience in lesson plan/curriculum creation in a recreational/educational setting. Experience in an educational setting. Education/Training (continued)

Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, some college coursework, and/or equivalent experience/training. Certification to instruct in applicable recreational sports program or equivalent experience. Salary & Benefits

Budgeted salary range: $23.50 - $24.00 per hour. This is a 3-month, 30%, part-time (12 hours per week) contract position not eligible for UC benefits. Non-exempt and bi-weekly payroll.
