NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is a full-service teaching hospital and Level I trauma center located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Position Summary
Physician Assistant-Per Diem (ENT/URO) – Brooklyn. The Physician Assistant will provide care to patients in the Department and in subspecialties as needed, follow established standards and practices, and give patient care directions to nursing and other staff.
Job Responsibilities
Provide preventive health services including counseling and teaching in Health Maintenance and problem-related areas.
Provide direct care to individuals and families consistent with the philosophy of Lutheran Medical Center and departmental/institutional goals, including safety, well-being of patients and visitors, and maintenance of patient rights and confidentiality.
Provide diagnostic and assessment services to patients in the Department of Surgery using a problem-solving approach: obtain detailed history; perform physical examinations; consider age and developmental stage; write appropriate orders after consulting with a physician; implement therapeutic regimes per institutional protocols; monitor patient responses; notify attending physician of changes; consult specialists for complex situations.
Document all patient encounters including assessment and progress notes, treatment rendered, patient teaching, follow-up, and referrals.
Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics for administrative purposes and reimbursement, including discharge summaries.
Evaluate and manage critical care patients.
Perform emergency life-saving procedures in the absence of a physician.
Participate in rounds with the attending staff and housestaff on assigned patients.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and families in admissions, care, and discharge transitions.
Participate in quality improvement activities as needed.
Participate in committees as appropriate.
Attend all scheduled departmental meetings and conferences.
Be on call during non-working hours to assist attendings in urgent or emergent situations/procedures.
Direct, instruct, and evaluate activities of P.A. and medical students as appropriate.
Participate in activities fostering professional growth and maintenance of certification.
Practice within the scope of delineated privileges.
Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. 0-1 years relevant experience. Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of New York. DEA certificate required. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
Required Licenses Physician Assistant Lic-NYS, National Certification, Basic Life Support Certification.
Preferred Qualifications Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS, PALS) through the American Heart Association or Neonatal Resuscitation certification (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics may be required based on selected privileges.
