Director of Merchandising (DMM)
to lead and elevate our Merchandising function across multiple
hardline product categories . This individual will oversee a team of Category Managers, driving the strategic direction, product selection, vendor negotiations, and financial performance of a high-volume, fast-paced business with a deep and diverse SKU count. The ideal candidate is a
true merchant —fact-based, detail-oriented, and deeply experienced in buying, planning, and product lifecycle management. They must thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrate a high degree of technical and organizational skill, and lead with clarity, confidence, and commercial acumen. Compensation
Base pay range:
$200,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr Additional compensation types:
Annual Bonus and RSUs Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Category Managers and Buyers across multiple hardlines categories. Foster a performance-driven culture with accountability, collaboration, and ongoing training. Guide the team in assortment planning, pricing strategies, vendor negotiations, and in-season management. Merchandising Strategy Develop and execute short- and long-term merchandising strategies aligned with company goals and customer needs. Own category-level financial plans including sales, margin, turn, and inventory productivity. Partner cross-functionally with Planning, Marketing, Operations, and eCommerce to ensure seamless execution. Identify and source compelling products and assortments that align with brand positioning and customer demand. Manage vendor relationships including onboarding, performance tracking, negotiations, and compliance. Drive innovation and margin growth through private label development, exclusive partnerships, and differentiated product offerings. Analytics & Decision-Making Use data to drive decisions—analyze trends, forecasts, sales, and competitive benchmarks. Maintain rigorous SKU productivity standards; make informed decisions on assortment expansion, rationalization, and lifecycle management. Lead seasonal hindsight reviews and provide actionable insights. Qualifications
10+ years
of progressive experience in merchandising, category management, or buying, with at least
5 years in a leadership role . Proven track record managing
multiple hardlines categories
in a high-volume, SKU-intensive retail or eCommerce environment. Strong
financial acumen
with experience managing P&Ls, open-to-buy, and product margins. Deep understanding of product development, sourcing, and vendor management. Highly
analytical and detail-oriented
with a fact-based, data-driven approach to decision-making. Skilled in retail systems (e.g., ERP, PLM, BI tools) and Excel; technical aptitude is a must. Strong
leadership, communication, and influencing skills —able to motivate teams and lead cross-functional initiatives. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field; MBA a plus. Seniority level
