Overview

Senior Convention Services Manager role at Sonesta International Hotels. Coordinates arrangements for group meetings and conventions by performing the duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Consults with representatives of client group or organization to plan details such as number of persons expected, display space desired, and food service schedule. Solicits new accounts, details programs confirmed via the Sales department, generates revenues, monitors meeting space and books repeat business while keeping quality consistently high. Responsible for monthly and annual forecasting for banquet events and expected revenues. Responsible for annual budgeting for operating equipment and to submit it to F&B Director for final approval. Responsible for scheduling, planning and assigning/delegating work to Conference Services & Catering Departments. Responsible for menu planning for banquets and outside catering with the cooperation of the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Director. Detail group events, BEOs, and Group Resumes ensuring accuracy and proper communication to operating departments (Culinary, Banquets, Stewarding, In-Room Dining, Accounting, Front Office, etc.). Assign client groups and meeting planners to Convention Services Managers within the department. Work with Banquet Services Department in preparing banquet and convention rooms and erecting displays and exhibits according to client specifications. Inspect rooms and displays for conformance to the needs and desires of the group. Attend and, as needed, lead BEO, Resume, Pre- and Post-Con meetings to address client specifications and needs with related operating departments. Supervisory Responsibilities

In coordination with the DOCES, manages and supervises the Catering & Social Events and Convention Services Departments. Under the DOCES leadership, the Senior CS Manager aids with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. May directly supervise non-supervisory employees. Responsible for scheduling, planning and assigning/delegating work to Conference Services & Catering Departments in the absence of the Director of Catering & Event Services. Also responsible for assigning client groups and meeting planners to Convention Services Managers within the department in the absence of the Director of Catering & Event Services. Competencies

Education And/or Experience Bachelor\'s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to three years related experience and/or training with two years in a senior role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to author routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions offered in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills Knowledge of Delphi, MICROS, Room Viewer Database software; Microsoft Outlook Internet software; Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations CMP (Certified Meeting Planner) a plus Other Skills And Abilities Must be available for flexible shifts including nights, weekends, holidays. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally climb or balance.
