Role overview: The Financial Services Analyst 2 position supports Gift Services as the office of gift, pledge and payment records and receipts for the campus, applying a wide range of expertise on advancement, campus, IRS, and cash handling policies to thousands of gifts annually. The role involves transactional work, process improvement, and collaboration to ensure donor compliance and accurate fund reporting.
Responsibilities
Gift Processing, Research and Analysis — Cash (checks, EFT, credit cards) and Noncash (securities, pledges, gifts-in-kind): reconcile, review, process, and approve standardized financial data and transactions from intake to receipt using CADS, CDS, Cybersource, and related tools; assist with fund transfers and designation toCampus BFS.
Ensure donor data compliance, security and stewardship by applying UDAR, Gift Services and campus policies; identify and resolve discrepancies; collaborate with units and vendors as needed; participate in gift allocation discussions.
Support Gift Services operations (including digitizing mail, preparing tax receipts, and data entry) and assist with external audits as required.
Gift Support Services — respond to donor and campus inquiries via phone and email; modify pledges in online platforms; provide tax documents and payment instructions; ensure timely support for matching gifts.
Organizational Effectiveness — collaborate to resolve processing issues; contribute to improvement projects; mentor staff; participate in planning and knowledge management; monitor personal effectiveness.
Organizational Culture & DEIBJ Initiatives — engage with colleagues in line with Berkeley's principles and Gift Services values; participate in UDAR and campus DEIBJ initiatives.
Professional Development — pursue skill development, participate in goal-setting, and leverage resources to expand knowledge and capabilities.
Qualifications
Minimum one year of excellent customer service experience with donors and colleagues via in-person, phone, and written communication.
Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication, mentoring, active listening, and sound judgment.
Strong organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines and manage collaborative projects.
Analytical with attention to detail, problem-solving, and critical thinking; ability to work under pressure with large transaction volumes.
Ability to learn and apply procedures and regulations; adaptable to a diverse environment and continuous improvement mindset.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Smartsheet; capable of handling large data sets and various databases/systems.
Education/Training Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of financial processes, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
Working knowledge of Ellucian Advance Web Access and Business Objects Web Intelligence.
Working knowledge of the Berkeley Financial System.
Salary & Benefits Budgeted hourly range: $31.25 - $35.09, commensurate with experience. This is a non-exempt, bi-monthly paid position, eligible for UC benefits.
