Overview

Position Summary: The Vice President, Clinical Services provides strategic, financial, and operational leadership for Boston Children's Hospital's clinical and ancillary service departments, including Anesthesiology (Pain Medicine and Critical Care), Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Pathology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Neurology. Working closely with Department Chiefs, Executive Administrative Directors (EADs), and senior leadership, the VP shapes and executes the vision, business strategy, and long-term growth of these departments and their affiliated foundations. This role oversees administrative operations, including business development, financial planning, revenue strategy, performance improvement, budget and compensation management, recruitment, and personnel matters. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence, the VP plays a critical role in advancing the hospital's mission of world-class patient care, education, and research.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight

Directly supervise Executive Administrative Directors (EADs) of clinical and ancillary services in partnership with Department Chiefs.

Promote a collaborative culture among medical staff, faculty, and administrative partners.

Represent departmental interests on hospital committees and liaise with leadership across the hospital and Physician Organization.

Strategic & Operational Management

Develop and execute business strategies, objectives, and long-term departmental plans.

Collaborate with Chiefs, EADs, and leadership to drive vision, mission, and staffing strategy for clinical services.

Implement systems to track and improve performance, productivity, and service excellence across ambulatory and ancillary services.

Oversee operations, project timelines, and business development initiatives to support a high-performance culture.

Financial Management

Develop and manage hospital operating and capital budgets in collaboration with Chiefs, EADs, and nursing leaders.

Perform financial analysis, prepare reports, and provide budget justifications.

Measure and analyze revenue streams, offerings, and key partnerships to optimize business growth.

Manage contracts and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective service delivery.

Program Development & Compliance

Partner with Chiefs and physician leaders to develop and oversee new clinical programs supporting academic, research, and teaching missions.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and hospital regulations.

Oversee clinical and administrative space allocations, facility operations, and environment of care in surgical clinics.

Drive service excellence by defining, measuring, and monitoring service criteria.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Healthcare administration, Business administration, or other relevant discipline.

Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in clinical services at an academic medical center or major healthcare provider.

Exceptional relationship-building and influencing skills in complex, matrixed environments.

Proven leadership and management expertise in guiding large, multifaceted teams.

Effective stakeholder engagement with physician leaders, operational partners, and multidisciplinary teams.

Executive presence, emotional intelligence, and ability to navigate sensitive and complex issues with diplomacy.

Proficiency in healthcare IT systems, including Epic EHR, with ability to leverage reporting and analytics for operational decision-making.
