Position Summary
The Head of School serves as the chief academic and administrative leader of Christ Church School, overseeing a dynamic learning community of children ages two years old through fifth grade. This individual is responsible for articulating and implementing the school’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities, while ensuring excellence in teaching, curriculum, faculty development, and school operations.
The Head of School works closely with the Board of Directors, Christ Church of the Ascension and Rector and Wardens, faculty, families, and the broader community to maintain CCS’s commitment to nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. The ideal candidate is a mission-aligned, experienced educator and strategic thinker with a passion for early childhood and elementary education and a proven track record of leadership and advancement.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & School Culture
Establish and promote a clear, student-centered vision for the school.
Foster a warm, inclusive, and collaborative environment for faculty, students, and their families.
Champion high academic standards alongside social-emotional and spiritual growth.
Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the school community.
Maintain strong visibility and accessibility to students, staff, and parents.
Collaborate closely with Christ Church of the Ascension to uphold and enrich the school’s Episcopal identity.
Lead long-term strategic planning initiatives to ensure sustainability, continuous improvement and growth.
Oversee aspects of crisis planning and school safety.
Cultivate and inspire leaders within the administrative staff and teachers, through development and the delegation of roles, responsibilities and support.
Academic & Faculty Development
Lead curriculum development to ensure engaging, research-based instruction.
Facilitate regular staff meetings and age-level team collaboration.
Oversee faculty recruitment, hiring, mentorship, evaluation and retention.
Champion ongoing professional development for faculty and staff.
Mentor and cultivate leadership as well as lines of succession from within.
Monitor student achievement, behavior, and academic progress, ensuring alignment with school goals.
Student & Community Life
Promote a well-rounded experience for all students, integrating academics, character education, spiritual development, and enrichment activities.
Provide developmentally appropriate student support and discipline.
Lead diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives to foster a welcoming school environment.
Work with the Saints (parent led volunteers) to coordinate community- and culture-building events and school traditions.
Operational & Strategic Oversight
Collaborate with administrative staff on admissions, enrollment, and retention efforts.
Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and day-to-day operations to maintain a safe and vibrant learning environment.
Ensure compliance with applicable educational and other regulatory standards and requirements.
Develop, lead and execute on strategic expansion efforts that both best serve our community as well as improve the educational capabilities of the school.
Partner with the Board of Directors to shape and implement school-wide initiatives and advancement.
In addition to overseeing the educational and operational functions of the school, the Head of School plays a pivotal role in development/fundraising and advancement. This includes cultivating relationships with current and prospective student family and other donors, collaborating with the Development Committee, and actively participating in fundraising events. The Head of School works to ensure the long-term sustainability of the institution by securing philanthropic support aligned with the school’s mission and vision.
Community & Parent Engagement
Serve as the primary liaison between the school and parents, fostering open, supportive communication.
Ensure the timely sharing of updates on student progress, school initiatives, and community events.
Build partnerships with local organizations and community stakeholders to enhance school programming and outreach.
