Overview
Venable LLP is seeking a
Business Development Manager
to develop and implement business development and marketing strategies for the Practice Groups in accordance with firm policies and procedures. This role will bring leadership and best practices to the business development department and may sit in the New York or Washington, DC office. Responsibilities
Partner with practice leaders to set and execute business development goals aligned with firm strategy; provide coaching on business development best practices and lead regular progress meetings Manage the full RFP process, including evaluation, drafting, coordination, and submission; maintain proposal content libraries to support efficient responses Identify and pursue opportunities for client expansion, cross-selling, and market visibility through events, sponsorships, and industry partnerships Collaborate with Events Team to develop event strategies, coordinate attorney participation, and measure ROI Lead BD onboarding for new laterals, including business planning and internal positioning Oversee creation and maintenance of marketing materials, practice descriptions, and attorney bios in collaboration with the Creative Team Leverage CRM (InterAction), experience databases, and financial data to track opportunities and support strategic decisions Monitor industry trends and contribute insights to support targeting and growth initiatives Work closely with Regional Marketing Managers and cross-functional teams to align national and regional BD efforts Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education/experience At least five years of progressive marketing and business development experience in professional services Strong coaching skills in developing business and marketing opportunities, including responding to RFPs, strategic planning, seminars, speaking engagements, sponsorships, networking, and social media Ability to deliver persuasive presentations on BD topics and develop/manage BD plans and sales pipelines Experience with CRM system, preferably InterAction Ability to oversee the work of others and provide mentoring and feedback to junior team members Strong relationship-building skills and a positive, collaborative work environment Emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and the ability to navigate relationships under pressure Proven ability to collaborate across teams and manage change to support business success Client-focused, consultative approach to understanding and meeting needs; skilled in addressing sensitive inquiries promptly Commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes and exceptional client service Ability to travel to various BD, department, and firm events and meetings Location
The role can be based in the New York or Washington, DC office. Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range for Candidates in New York:
$140,000 - $155,000 per year Pay Range for Candidates in Washington, DC:
$130,000 - $150,000 per year The ranges listed are the minimum and maximum salary Venable believes it is willing to pay at the time of posting; exact compensation will be determined based on qualifications and location.
