Under direction, supervises the maintenance, repair and operation of the SFMTA Power Control Center, Traction Power substations and machinery and equipment used in the conversion and distribution of electrical power and performs related duties as required. Inspects automatic, manual, hydroelectric and electric power system stations and substations to ensure generators, rectifiers, valves and related machinery operate properly in generation and distribution of power. Supervises the work of a subordinate group of operators engaged in generation and distribution of power, including assisting employees at remote sites as needed. Supervises staff in maintenance of machinery and equipment used in generation and distribution of power, including monitoring the Supervisory Control System (SCADA). Prepares critical and routine reports, records, meter readings and technical information for documenting generation, distribution and consumption of power. Interprets rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to operation of powerhouse substations, machinery and equipment; determines needs and prepares requisitions for materials, supplies and resources. Acts for the powerhouse superintendent or serves as emergency relief operator as needed. Contributes to the development and advancement of subordinates through training and employee development programs. Performs related duties as required. Nature of Work

Requires occasional exposure to high noise levels and conditions where serious accidents or injuries may occur around large generators and substation units; ability to differentiate colors; and willingness to work shifts, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications

Experience:

Two (2) years of full-time verifiable experience working as a Senior Power System Operator or in an equivalent supervisory role (e.g., Power System Operators, Substation Operators, Substation Technicians, Electric Station Operators, Power Plant Operators, Load Dispatchers, Power System Dispatchers, Power Distribution Specialists or Electrical Power Production Specialists) involved in operation and maintenance of power generation equipment and/or centralized power control and distribution equipment in a Transit Motive Power Control Center. License:

Possession of a valid California driver’s license at the time of appointment. Selection Procedures

Trades Supervisory Examination (TSE) – Weight 40%:

A written multiple-choice examination covering supervisory practices and procedures (e.g., directing and evaluating subordinates, customer service, leadership behavior, etc.) and reading comprehension. This is a standardized exam; questions and answers are not public. Training & Experience Evaluation (Weight - 60%):

A Supplemental Questionnaire will be sent to measure knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas (e.g., power plant operations, safety procedures, supervisory ability). Accuracy and completeness are essential. Only candidates who pass the TSE will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored. A passing score on all components is required to be placed on the eligible list/score report. Additional Information

A confidential list of applicants who pass the examination will be created for certification purposes. The list is public only when required by law or after it is exhausted or expired. The list duration is 12 months and may be extended with approval of the Director of Transportation. Terms of Announcement:
