NYC Health + Hospitals

system, the practice has the rich backing of the

NYC Health + Hospitals Office of Population Health , ensuring extensive holistic ancillary support for patient care that includes social workers, registered dietitians, a diabetes educator, care managers, community health workers to address social determinants of health, embedded psychologists for depression/anxiety treatment, and embedded clinical pharmacists to support diabetes and hypertension treatment. This culturally diverse practice also serves as an educational training ground for approximately 80 internal medicine primary care residents as well as Columbia University medical students. The new Primary Care Physician specializing in Sickle Cell Disease will join a team of 9 attending physicians (including 3 graduates of the residency program), 4 nurse practitioners, and 2 physician assistants who currently see 200-300 patients per day. The new Sickle Cell Program will also add a dedicated nurse and community health worker, in addition to all the practice supports above.

Opportunity Details

This physician will have administrative time to work closely with the Chief of Ambulatory Care and the Director of Primary Care to build the new sickle cell program at Harlem Hospital, including designing a feasible system for after-hours coverage.

This physician will provide comprehensive and holistic primary care for patients with sickle cell disease, including pain management and infusion treatments.

Primary Care practice will build over time; target panel size approximately 1,000 patients with sickle cell disease.

The physician will design an educational curriculum and supervise residents rotating in the sickle cell practice.

The physician will see general primary care patients while building the sickle cell practice.

Volume approximately 20 patients per day.

Qualifications

Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine required.

Experience or expertise in sickle cell disease, palliative care, pain management, and/or chronic disease preferred.

New residency graduates with a passion for the holistic care of individuals with sickle cell disease will be enthusiastically considered.

Wages and Benefits Compensation:

Annual Base Salary: $224,000 (board eligible); $229,000 (board certified) based on a 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $341,920 (board eligible) and $347,420 (board certified), which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors.

Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours per week: $55,520.

Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on quality and productivity targets).

401(k) Company Contribution: immediate 3% of base earnings; after one year, 7% company contribution (no employee match required).

Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) reimbursement; generous PTO; medical, prescription, and dental coverage; life and AD&D coverage; voluntary life and AD&D options; loan forgiveness eligibility; malpractice coverage; FSAs; pre-tax commuting deductions.
