Intuit
Overview
Join Intuit's Platform & Developer Experience (PDX) group as a Senior Staff Software Engineer focused on developing and scaling the API Gateway platform that powers billions of transactions across Intuit's ecosystem. Intuit's API Gateway is a foundational component of our cloud-native architecture, enabling seamless, secure, and scalable API interactions across microservices. This team is reinventing how APIs are exposed, governed, and consumed across product teams, and contributes back to open source and industry innovation. We're seeking passionate engineers who thrive on solving tough distributed systems problems, working cross functionally, and driving platform evolution at scale. If you're excited about joining a fast-paced, innovative, and high-impact team, and are passionate about continuously raising the operational bar of cloud-native platforms, we encourage you to apply.
What you'll bring
10+ years of hands-on software development experience.
Experience building and scaling API Gateway platforms or reverse proxy solutions (e.g., Envoy, NGINX, Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway).
Deep understanding of Layer 4/7 networking and traffic management concepts (rate limiting, circuit breaking, retries, load balancing).
Strong experience with Kubernetes, service mesh technologies, and microservices architectures.
Proficient in Go, Java, or C++, and experience developing high-performance distributed systems.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Experience with API security standards like OAuth2, mTLS, OpenID Connect, and JWT.
Demonstrated success influencing engineering direction and contributing to open source.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
BS/MS in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
How you will lead
Design, develop, and maintain a highly available, scalable, and secure API Gateway platform.
Partner with product managers, architects, and other engineering teams to define and deliver platform capabilities.
Lead and influence the technical direction of API lifecycle management, including traffic routing, authentication/authorization, rate limiting, and developer onboarding.
Continuously raise the bar for reliability, performance, observability, and operational excellence.
Mentor engineers across the organization and help define engineering best practices.
Contribute to and lead open source initiatives aligned with our platform strategy.
Stay ahead of emerging technologies and architectural patterns in API and traffic management.
