Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) Department of Medicine is seeking a distinguished, dynamic and collaborative leader with a strong clinical and academic foundation to serve as its next

Academic Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine . As the leader of the Division, the Chief will be responsible for the growth and advancement of research, faculty recruitment and development, scholarly activity, and clinical and teaching excellence. The new Chief will have the opportunity to shape the growth of pulmonary services across the RWJBarnabas/Rutgers Health System, a $5 Billion enterprise that cares for about 40% of all NJ residents. In concert with the Department, School, and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), the Division Chief will expand interdisciplinary and translational research within the division.

The current Division strives to be a nationally recognized program, advancing clinical, educational, research and scholarly activities with the goal of being a top tier Division in all areas. It includes well-developed general pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine programs. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the incoming Chief must be passionate about building collaborative research programs, mentoring junior faculty, and advancing pulmonary medicine on the national/international stage. The Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine will be supported with the funds necessary to meet a high standard of excellence in clinical care, research, and education.

The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding leadership, a high-level of administrative skill, excellent communication skills, clinical and research productivity, an understanding of the complexity of uniting academic and community medicine, and a creative vision to develop a superior pulmonary program, advancing the clinical, research, and training missions of the medical school, while working closely with community physician leaders to collaboratively advance the delivery of care to the health system patient populations. The candidate will inspire, manage and mentor, and have a passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, and the leadership qualities to engage faculty, set expectations and develop careers. In addition, the successful candidate will have an actively funded research program in basic, translational, clinical, or health services research, strong academic credentials, and have a distinguished record of accomplishments across all missions.

Responsibilities & Expectations The Department of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is comprised of approximately 150 paid and more than 300 volunteer faculty members organized into 11 divisions covering the major medical subspecialties. The Division Chief will lead the Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine and will be responsible for growth in research, faculty development, scholarly activity, and clinical and teaching excellence. The Chief will shape pulmonary services within the RWJBarnabas/Rutgers Health System and expand interdisciplinary and translational research. The Chief will mentor junior faculty, build collaborative research programs, and advance pulmonary medicine on national/international stages. The candidate should demonstrate strong administrative leadership, communication, and a funded research program across basic, translational, clinical, or health services research areas.
