Overview
Canopy Chicago Central Loop - Director Finance Base pay range: $110,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr As our Director of Finance, you'll be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, profit and loss reporting, and account reconciliation for our hotel location. You will oversee accounting activities including income auditing, cashiering, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax compliance, payroll, and month-end processing. This is a high-profile Executive Committee position ideal for an experienced hotel finance professional who is driven, energetic, and committed to achieving results. You build trust through honesty and integrity, proactively support hotel goals, and communicate clearly with leadership at all levels. Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
Ensure monthly P&Ls accurately reflect revenues, expenses, and cost of sales; analyze variances between actual, forecasted, and budgeted performance.
Advise the GM and executive team on financial and operational issues; facilitate monthly P&L reviews to uncover challenges, opportunities, and trends.
Foster strong relationships with management by providing direct counsel and feedback that improves performance and financial acumen.
Forecasting & Budgeting
Identify strategies to positively impact financial performance; provide analytical tools and support to department heads during budget preparation.
Lead the sales and operations team in creating accurate monthly forecasts and review for opportunities in expense control.
Financial Operations
Verify accuracy and timeliness of finance functions: daily and month-end reporting, payroll processing, income audit, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash/credit card management.
Complete comprehensive month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, cost of sales entries, balance sheet reconciliations, tax reporting, and profit analysis.
Manage capital expenditure budget and reconcile expenditures monthly.
Ensure strong accounting and operational controls to safeguard assets and maximize profits.
Supervise and lead the finance team with professional development.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting and a minimum of 5 years in a finance leadership role, or 5+ years in progressive hotel finance roles.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, P&L reporting, and balancing ledgers for operating and balance sheet accounts.
Analytical mindset with the ability to draw conclusions and provide solutions.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, POS/PMS systems, and Excel data analysis.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills; ability to conduct effective group meetings and presentations.
