Job Requirements Registered Nurse with seven (7) to ten (10) years of long-term care nursing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; RN license required. MSN preferred. Ability to analyze information received and lead staff to achieve positive outcomes for residents. Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Knowledge of nursing principles and state and federal health regulations. Proficiency in the operation of computer applications. Must maintain Infection Preventionist Certification as required. Job Summary & Responsibilities
This position directs the overall operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with current state and federal regulations. Oversees scheduling of staff, budget proposals, and supervisory roles. Supervises the delivery of all nursing operations and functions of the Health Center on a daily basis to ensure effective and efficient resident care. Develops and maintains nursing service objectives, standards of practice, policy and procedure manuals, and job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel. Collaborates with the MDS to ensure the comprehensive plan of care is maintained in conjunction with other disciplines. Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reviews, charts, and studies. Determines staffing requirements to meet federal, state, and jurisdictional guidelines; forecasts resident admissions and needs to estimate future staffing. Delegates responsibilities to nursing staff and follows up to ensure completion. Ensures staff carry out resident care policies daily. Provides written or oral recommendations to the Director of Health Services for areas of improvement. Conducts rounds of all nursing units to ensure the highest level of care. Reviews and identifies new resident medical needs; makes recommendations and documents in the resident chart. Maintains a clean and safe Nursing department environment, ensuring equipment and supplies are operable. Coordinates activities of nursing units with other resident care services (physicians, therapy, dietary, etc.). Interviews all applicants for nursing management positions and provides final hiring approvals for nursing personnel. Coordinates in-service and training needs based on evaluations and skills assessments. Reviews Health Center policies and procedures as needed. Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement committee meetings to identify issues and develop/implement improvement plans. Develops and implements policies for resident care with the Medical Director. Ensures staff completion of in-services/annual education as assigned by job title. Completes incident reports to local, state, and federal agencies when applicable and conducts investigations/interviews related to resident incidents. Resident Relations: Works with Ingleside management to build and network with resident organizations to promote services and levels of care. Maintains resident and potential resident confidentiality and privacy; uses discretion when discussing confidential matters. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with residents, families, co-workers, and other staff; maintains positive working relationships with management. Adheres to professional standards in appearance and demeanor; understands work assignments and works to meet quality and timeliness objectives. Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures and seeks clarification as needed; uses tactful, diplomatic, and respectful communication. Complies with safety policies and government regulations; reports hazards or injuries promptly; provides assistance in emergencies following proper procedures.
