Who We Are Looking For
State Street Investment Management (State Street IM), formerly State Street Global Advisors or SSGA, is seeking a seasoned leader of a multi-year, enterprise-wide transformation to modernize and optimize front, middle, and back-office capabilities. This role reports to the SVP of Client Pathways and is part of the COO organization. This position will be based in Boston, London or Stamford.
The Client Pathways initiative is central to our long-term strategy to drive operating leverage, scalability, and service excellence for our investment teams and clients. The transformation leader will lead strategic change and ensure successful delivery of transformational outcomes. This role is accountable for shaping the future-state technical architecture, fostering innovation, and driving measurable business impact across Investments technology and partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Transformation Leadership & Vision: Develop the technology transformation strategy of State Street Investment Management’s front and middle office platforms, ensuring alignment with our front office vision and enterprise goals.
Evaluate and oversee the integration of enterprise IBOR and ABOR systems, ensuring integration meets the needs of State Street IM for portfolio management, reconciliation, and near real-time reporting.
Provide design and engineering oversight in developing an orchestration layer for IBOR and trade order processing; lead modernization of trade and order management systems to ensure end-to-end transaction integrity and efficient data exchange.
Drive holistic data lineage across front, middle, and back-office to ensure accuracy and transparency.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to harmonize data architecture and system interoperability for a unified, agile, resilient operating environment.
Enterprise Program Oversight & Governance
Oversee the transformation program execution, ensuring delivery of milestones and benefits realization.
Support governance, transparency, and accountability across IM.
Drive integration and alignment across business, technology, risk, compliance, and corporate functions.
Identify and resolve strategic risks, dependencies, and resource gaps.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior executives and strategic partners.
Serve as liaison between internal teams and external affiliates, aligning service design and delivery expectations.
Communicate transformation progress, challenges, and successes across the organization.
Strategic Initiative Integration & Enterprise Alignment
Integrate broader strategic initiatives (e.g., data enablement, platform modernization, organizational redesign) with the transformation roadmap.
Prioritize critical business capabilities (multi-asset class, derivatives) in design and execution.
Align transformation efforts with enterprise priorities and market opportunities.
Qualifications
15+ years of experience leading front, middle and back-office data and technology transformations, program management, or strategy roles.
Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including SQL and Java; experience with various frameworks and libraries.
Experience architecting and developing microservices-based applications, client/server design, and database design/administration.
Proven track record migrating legacy systems to modern platforms, with migration plans and risk assessments.
Expertise in data caching strategies to improve performance and reduce latency.
Proven experience leading large-scale, cross-functional transformation programs with measurable business impact.
Deep expertise in investment management operations, outsourced service models, and digital transformation.
Experience collaborating with external partners to harmonize data architecture and system interoperability.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, or related field required.
Advanced degree (MBA, MS Financial Engineering, CFA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Experience with multi-asset class investment management, including public and private markets.
Global, multi-jurisdictional experience in a regulated financial environment preferred.
