The Director, Scientific & Regulatory Affairs will lead iHerb’s efforts to ensure compliance and scientific integrity in the development, labeling, and marketing of dietary supplements. This role is responsible for reviewing product formulations, assessing ingredient safety and regulatory status, and guiding the organization on permissible claims. The position partners cross-functionally with Product Development, Marketing, Legal, Quality, and Global Trade to support innovation while ensuring compliance with U.S. and international regulations. Formulation Review & Compliance
Review and approve dietary supplement formulations to ensure compliance with FDA, DSHEA, FTC, and international regulations. Evaluate ingredient safety, maximum levels, and global regulatory acceptability. Provide expertise on novel ingredients, restricted substances, and risk management. Claims & Labeling Guidance
Provide leadership on allowable structure/function, nutrient content, and general well-being claims. Review and approve supplement facts panels, labels, packaging, and marketing materials. Ensure all claims are scientifically substantiated and legally defensible. Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner with Product Development on compliant innovation and new market entry. Advise Marketing and Creative teams on compliant product messaging. Collaborate with Legal and Quality Assurance to maintain compliance throughout the product lifecycle. Monitor global regulatory developments affecting dietary supplements and functional foods. Anticipate regulatory risks and proactively advise business leaders. Develop internal policies, SOPs, and training to strengthen compliance culture. Team & Industry Leadership
Serve as the internal authority on supplement science and regulatory affairs. Represent iHerb in industry associations and with regulatory agencies when needed. Mentor team members and build organizational expertise in regulatory affairs. The duties and responsibilities described above may provide only a partial description of this position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacology, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred). 7+ years of regulatory, scientific, or compliance experience in dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, or food industry. Expertise in U.S. supplement regulations (DSHEA, FDA, FTC) and strong working knowledge of global frameworks (EU, Canada, Asia, etc.). Proven experience reviewing formulations, supplement facts panels, and claims. Strong knowledge of ingredient safety, toxicology, and international regulatory resources. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional settings with ability to balance innovation and compliance. Equipment Knowledge: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience with Google Business Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms) preferred Experience Requirements: Generally requires a minimum of 7+ years of regulatory, scientific, or compliance experience in dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, or food industry.
