Salary/Grade: EXS/6. Target hiring range for this position will be between $57,000-$60,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Job Summary

Manages daily operations of a research lab. Monitors lab performance, analyzes and reviews results, and supervises the development and implementation of new protocols. Assigns work and supervises lab personnel and reviews technical operations, ensuring that all processes, protocols, and procedures are quality-controlled and function up to standards. Develops, implements, and administers budgets, grants, and administrative procedures. Co-authors scientific papers for presentation and publication, and coordinates writing, submission, and administration of grants. Primary Responsibilities

Manages technical operations of a lab involved in scientific research activities. In consultation with Principal Investigator (PI), organizes and plans experiments to attain project objectives. Oversees and guides lab staff in review of results and recommendations for changes to protocols to improve validity and accuracy. Conducts more complex experiments and analyses. Performs advanced molecular, cellular, histology, animal care and administration tasks as part of project work. Technical Proficiencies by Focus Area

Molecular Biology : DNA, RNA, protein isolation, purification and expression; Southern, Northern, Western blotting; PCR, RT-PCR; Plasmid preparation; Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA; Recombinant virus production and purification. Cellular Biology : Cell culture, cell isolation; functional studies; transfection. Histology : Tissue fixation/processing; embedding; sectioning; staining; Immunohistochemistry; Microscopy; Immunology; Flow cytometry; ELISA; Elispot; Cytokine assays; Antibody production and purification. Animal : Husbandry; breeding and screening transgenic mice; dissections; blood collection; surgical procedures; database management of colony. Administration : Data collection and analysis for grant submissions, presentations and publications; ensure correct database entries; assist PI in reviewing and formatting tables, charts, graphs and reports; coordinate with sponsoring agencies and collaboration organizations; ensure research regulations are adhered to, IRB/ACUC approvals, material transfer agreements, and compliant safety procedures. Finance

Manages lab budget and inventory, purchasing of supplies and services; ensures expenses are necessary and project-related. Orders and maintains inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, equipment, and instrumentation; may distribute intra-departmental charges. Negotiates with vendors, obtains quotes and arranges demos of large equipment. Supervision

Trains and supervises lab staff including EEs, students, residents and/or fellows; provides instruction on complex procedures and equipment. Typically manages a lab budget of $1,000,000-$3,000,000; supervises 5-15 lab members and 1,000-3,000 NASF of space. Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of a full 4-year bachelor’s degree in a scientific major or related field, or an appropriate combination of education and experience with at least 6 years of lab/bench or relevant experience. Master’s degree or higher in a scientific field or related; or an appropriate combination of education and experience with at least 4 years of lab/bench or relevant experience.
