Position Overview The
Director of Finance
is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization (ERTI & the Trades Institute), ensuring compliance with regulatory and funding requirements, and providing strategic financial leadership. The Controller plays a key role in budgeting, financial reporting, audit preparation, and resource planning.
Principal Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including AP/AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, and cash flow management
Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with leadership and program staff
Monitor organizational financial performance and provide monthly financial reports to the CEO
Supervise and support assigned financial staff to align fundraising and grants management with financial goals
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Medicaid and grant funding requirements
Manage and coordinate the annual independent audit and preparation of the IRS Form 990
Oversee restricted and unrestricted fund accounting, and ensure proper tracking and reporting of grant and donor-restricted funds
Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and financial policies and procedures
Provide financial analysis and guidance to support strategic decision-making
Collaborate with program leaders to ensure accurate cost allocation and tracking of program expenses
Maintain relationships with banking institutions, auditors, and other financial stakeholders
Prepare financial reports and data for board meetings, grant applications, and compliance reviews
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA, licensing and Joint Commission regulations
Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including compliance with all behavioral, ethical, and client boundary expectations
Maintain client records according to the organization’s policies and procedures
Maintain the organization, Ohio MHAS, and CARF required training
Maintain license or registration appropriate to profession and job requirements, including continuing education
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting and financial reporting standards for nonprofits. Federal and state grant management and compliance. Accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage Intacct. Medicaid billing and reimbursement (preferred). IRS Form 990 and nonprofit audit preparation. Budgeting and forecasting processes. Internal controls and financial policy development.
Abilities Analyze and interpret complex financial data. Communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Lead and develop a small team with a collaborative approach. Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines. Exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality. Work collaboratively with leadership, program, and administrative staff. Adapt to changing regulations and organizational needs.
Working Conditions Primarily office-based with standard business hours (Monday–Friday). Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for board meetings or deadlines. May require minimal travel for training or audit meetings. Hybrid or remote work arrangements may be considered based on organizational needs. Fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent priorities.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred)
Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit finance and accounting
Experience with federal and state grant management
Familiarity with behavioral health or healthcare financial operations
