Overview Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross Round Mountain is a leading mining company dedicated to sustainable and safe mining practices. The Round Mountain mine is known as geotechnically challenging and is part of Kinross’ Nevada operations.

The Round Mountain Technical Services team is seeking an experienced

Senior UG Mining Engineer

to lead the design, planning, and ventilation functions for the Underground Mine at Round Mountain Gold Mine. Reporting to the UG Technical Services Manager, you will provide mining engineering support for mine planning, operations, and contractors to ensure the mine operates effectively and safely. The underground is in early development stages transitioning from exploration development to capital development. This is a role to build the foundation for the underground mining engineering group, standards, and procedures for the life of mine.

Responsibilities

Short-Term Mine Planning: Develop weekly and monthly mine production schedules, incorporating ventilation, ground control, and development requirements.

Long-Term Mine Planning: Develop, update, and optimize long-range mine plans and designs. Conduct trade-off studies. Support financial modeling functions for capex and opex estimates.

Stope Design & Optimization: Design and sequence stopes using geology and geotechnical input; optimize for ore recovery, dilution control, and safety.

Development Planning: Generate designs for lateral and vertical development including crosscuts, ramps, accesses, and infrastructure headings.

Production Support: Monitor daily production metrics; troubleshoot issues related to mucking, backfilling, ground conditions, and drill/blast performance.

Ventilation & Infrastructure Coordination: Assist in planning ventilation routes, escapeways, dewatering, electrical, and services infrastructure in coordination with mine services.

Survey & QA/QC Support: Collaborate with the survey team to ensure proper layout of headings and stope boundaries; validate as-built data.

Cost Control & Reconciliation: Track actuals vs. planned production metrics; support cost and performance analyses.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance: Ensure designs and activities align with MSHA regulations and internal safety standards; participate in audits and inspections.

Mentorship & Team Leadership: Provide mentorship and technical support to junior engineers and technicians; participate in internal knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field

3-6 years of experience in underground mining engineering (precious metals experience preferred)

Familiarity with common underground mining methods (cut & fill, longhole, sublevel stoping)

Experience with mine design and planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan or similar) (Deswik preferred)

Knowledge of MSHA regulations and site safety practices

Proficiency in Microsoft Software

Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management

Ability to work independently and as a member of the Technical Services team

Demonstrate strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills

Requires a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with backfill systems (paste, CRF) and sequencing

Familiarity with geotechnical and geological data integration into mine planning

Experience with ventilation modeling software such as VentSIM

Reporting Relationships Reports to the Underground Technical Services Manager.
