Overview

Advanced Practice Providers (APP) are Nurse Practitioners (NP), Physician Assistants (PA), or Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS). The APP is credentialed by the medical staff and functions within their scope of practice in their jurisdiction and in accordance with organizational medical staff bylaws. They provide evidenced-based care for the management of patients, including assessment, implementation and evaluation of a detailed plan of care with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The APP delivers age-appropriate, family-centered care and supports discharge planning in collaboration with other disciplines. The APP initiates, participates in, and collaborates with divisional and organizational multidisciplinary staff to support evidence-based education, quality improvement, and research. They participate in professional and organizational activities that contribute to patient care improvement, the scientific knowledge base of advanced practice, program operation, and individual professional development. The APP provides leadership within their clinical area through participation in division projects and mentorship, and represents advanced practice in department and organization-wide initiatives. Responsibilities

Functional Accountabilities Clinical: Assesses, diagnoses, and monitors clinical status of each patient using evidence-based practice and medical knowledge. Develops appropriate plan of care. Writes patient care orders, prescribes therapy, and provides necessary home care orders as needed. Identifies significant changes in patient status using physical exam, labs, diagnostics, and patient/family input. Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings. Performs procedures as needed after credentialing. Participates in and/or leads multidisciplinary patient care. Acts as a clinical resource for patient, family, and the interdisciplinary team. Communicates and escalates clinical/administrative issues appropriately. Collaborates with nursing, medicine, and other team members to ensure quality patient care. Administrative: Serves as a clinical preceptor to NP, CNS, or PA students. Acts as a clinical resource for staff in patient care issues. Presents formal/informal educational content to staff on areas of expertise. Participates in and leads quality improvement initiatives within the department. Qualifications

Minimum Education Master's Degree for Nurse Practitioner or Doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited program with eligibility for medical staff credentialing. Master's or Doctoral degree for Physician Assistant from an accredited program with eligibility for medical staff credentialing. Master's or Doctorate degree in the clinical specialty area for Clinical Nurse Specialist with eligibility for medical staff credentialing (Required). Minimum Work Experience 0 years minimum of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (Required). Required Skills/Knowledge Strong knowledge of clinical specialty and services. Demonstrates clinical leadership skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Required Licenses and Certifications APRN/Nurse Practitioner: Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice; CDS; DEA (Required) or Physician Assistant: Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice; CDS; DEA (Required) or APRN Clinical Nurse Specialist: Licensure in the state(s) of clinical practice; if prescribing controlled substances: CDS and DEA (Required) or Nurse Practitioner: Active national certification (PNCB, ANCC, or AANPCB) and BLS (Required) or Physician Assistant: Active national certification (NCCPA) and BLS (Required) or Clinical Nurse Specialist: Active national certification by ANCC and BLS (Required).
