Overview
Join a world-class technology organization where Linux at scale powers some of the fastest, most demanding systems on the planet. Our client is looking for an exceptional Linux Systems Engineer with deep systems knowledge and Python/automation skills to help drive the next evolution of our global infrastructure. In this role, you won’t just keep servers running — you’ll architect, optimize, and innovate across a fleet of thousands of Linux systems in a high-performance trading environment. You’ll be at the forefront of automation and self-service initiatives, streamlining server management worldwide and pushing infrastructure to new levels of speed, reliability, and scale. The Linux Engineering group designs, configures, and maintains the backbone of the technology stack — from ultra-low-latency trading engines to massive research workloads and Kubernetes-driven applications. Our client is looking for someone who can combine deep Linux expertise with a builder’s mindset to enhance consistency, efficiency, and innovation across their global fleet. Key Impact Areas
Own the Linux core: Troubleshoot and resolve complex, high-stakes production issues to ensure world-class stability and performance. Automate at scale: Evolve and extend configuration-management tooling supporting tens of thousands of bare-metal systems. Build the tools you need: Design and maintain Python and Bash utilities orchestrating large-scale Linux operations. Streamline provisioning: Turn bare-metal servers into production-ready platforms quickly and reliably. Elevate visibility: Expand monitoring, metrics, and alerting to achieve real-time insights into Linux infrastructure health. Collaborate and communicate: Work cross-functionally with engineering peers and stakeholders through code reviews, tickets, and live syncs. What You’ll Bring
Proven, hands-on experience engineering, administering, and provisioning Linux systems at scale (bare-metal preferred). Deep knowledge of configuration management (Puppet + Hiera or equivalent) in large, distributed environments. Proficiency writing Ansible playbooks and orchestrating complex workflows. Familiarity with RPM packaging and managing internal repositories. Comfort with Git and CI/CD best practices for versioned infrastructure. Advanced system and network troubleshooting (eBPF, tcpdump, strace, systemd, NTP/PTP, lsof, nc). Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (routing, DNS, TCP/UDP/multicast). Ability to build and publish Docker images. Working knowledge of Kubernetes clusters and deployments. Experience with monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, AlertManager) focused on Linux telemetry and exporters. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or a related field—or equivalent practical experience. Seniority level
Mid-Senior level Employment type
