Director of Payroll
to lead and scale payroll operations during a period of significant growth. The Director will ensure flawless, compliant, and timely payroll processing across a multi-state organization and will partner with HR, Finance, and IT to drive continuous improvement in payroll systems and processes. As a rapidly growing, publicly-traded organization, they are investing in vertically integrated operations spanning from raw material processing to the manufacturing of finished products. Spearhead the entire payroll function, overseeing multi-state processing, tax filings, and regulatory compliance. Develop and implement scalable payroll policies, procedures, and robust internal controls to meet company standards and legal requirements (e.g., FLSA, IRS, DoL). Take ownership of payroll systems and their integrations (experience with ADP or SAP is preferred), focusing on data integrity and system efficiency. Manage all payroll-related audits and ensure the timely resolution of any findings or discrepancies. Oversee the accurate processing of all employee compensation, including bonuses and complex equity transactions like stock awards. Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and HR teams to support the design and administration of equity compensation programs within the payroll system. Lead, mentor, and develop the payroll team, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance. Stay current on legislative changes affecting payroll to ensure ongoing compliance across all jurisdictions. Manage all year-end activities, including the preparation, reconciliation, and distribution of W-2s. Translate company policies, tax and legislative requirements to ensure delivery of accurate and timely employee payments, reporting, compliance with applicable regulations, and internal controls. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure all payroll tables are properly updated and that staff are aware of any changes that might affect payroll administration or policy. Qualifications
A minimum of 10 years of payroll experience, including at least 4 years in a payroll management or leadership capacity. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline; CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) highly desired. Demonstrated experience managing payroll operations for a publicly traded company. Proven expertise in complex, multi-state payroll and tax compliance. Strong knowledge of enterprise payroll systems such as ADP, SAP, or similar platforms. Proven ability in applying process improvement methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma desired.
