Responsibilities and Requirements The job description describes an Advanced Practice Provider with a focus on Gastroenterology Oncology within CINJ Gastroenterology, including clinical practice and educational responsibilities. The ideal candidate is an Advanced Practice Provider (Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant) with at least 1 year of oncology experience; exceptional new graduates with a focused interest will be considered.
Medical Knowledge
Demonstrates in-depth oncology-specific and general medical-surgical knowledge.
Provides rational explanations for clinical decisions based on guidelines, science, and experience.
Contributes to the research mission by staying current with protocols and identifying potential trial candidates.
Patient Care
Performs comprehensive initial and episodic health histories and physical exams; initiates appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical actions.
Interprets findings and formulates a plan of care tailored to tumor group practice norms.
Educates patients and families on all aspects of oncology care, including side effects management, teaching, counseling, and psychosocial support.
Practice Based Learning and Improvement
Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self-assessment and collaboration; participates in performance evaluations.
Attends relevant continuing education and shares knowledge with colleagues.
Applies pertinent research findings to clinical practice.
Interprofessional Collaboration and Communication Skills
Communicates with all health care team members to ensure a unified plan of care.
Documents the plan of care and clinical information in the EMR according to policy.
Participates in team meetings, tumor boards, and committees to support interdisciplinary care.
Professionalism
Acts as a resource and leader in oncology care; may precept students and new staff.
Manages time effectively; adjusts hours to meet job demands.
Engages in self-reflection and professional development, including collaboration and emotional intelligence.
Maintains compliance with employment requirements and professional standards.
Systems-Based Practice
Participates in quality improvement activities related to patient care and satisfaction.
Documents clinical services per reimbursement and institutional policies.
Assists patients and families in navigating barriers to cancer care, including financial resources and referrals to support services.
