The Department of Anesthesia, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Diego is a diverse group of 70+ Physicians and 50+ Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists practicing in a team model. Our group includes physicians from top training programs across the country, with multiple specialists in Cardiothoracic, Critical Care, Obstetric, Pain, Pediatric, Regional Anesthesia, Neuroanesthesia, and Thoracic Anesthesia Fellowships. All partner physicians are Diplomates of the American Board of Anesthesiology.
In San Diego, our practice encompasses a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient surgeries across all sub-specialties except Cardiac, Trauma, and Transplant. Our general anesthesia cases include Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Thoracic, Orthopedic Surgery, and outpatient procedures in Gastroenterology, Radiology, and Interventional Radiology. Night calls are evenly distributed among all partners and pre-partners. Typically, your time will be split approximately 30% supervising CRNAs and 70% performing cases. There may be at most one resident working at our main hospital.
Our growth has been significant, with the opening of the San Diego Medical Center in 2017 and a new facility in San Marcos in August 2023. We operate across six sites: three hospitals and three outpatient centers, with travel expected between Otay and San Marcos; living centrally is advantageous.
About the Area San Diego offers coastal living with beachside communities and a vibrant downtown. The climate allows year-round visits to attractions like the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and Legoland. The city’s culture is rich with culinary delights and unique architecture influenced by its proximity to Mexico and Spanish history.
Working Here The San Diego service area is extensive, covering over 1,100 physicians and approximately 25 satellite offices, supporting a well-defined culture focused on physician well-being, workforce cohesion, and patient engagement. Our size and diversity foster advanced technology and clinical expertise, with strong support and collaboration among physicians and staff. Educational and research opportunities are actively promoted, including residency programs, fellowships, and participation in clinical studies and trials.
