Overview

As the Network Architect, you will lead the strategic development and execution of our network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, robust security, and scalability. This expert-level role requires mastery of network architecture, alignment with organizational goals, and leadership in large-scale network projects in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. You will design and implement advanced network solutions, collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, elevate network security frameworks, optimize performance, and manage the full lifecycle of network services. You will also develop high-level network standards, mentor network engineering talent, and drive advanced troubleshooting. This position requires extensive experience and professional certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, or JNCIE. Department : UCSF Infrastructure Services – Network Services Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of advanced network solutions. Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to align network strategies with business objectives. Drive analysis of complex business requirements into innovative network designs. Elevate network security frameworks and optimize network performance. Manage the full lifecycle of network services from conceptual design to continuous improvement. Develop and enforce high-level network standards. Mentor network engineering talent and lead resolution of complex network issues using advanced troubleshooting skills. Lead large-scale network projects in a multi-stakeholder environment. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, in computer science, computer information systems, or related field. 7 to 10+ years of expert experience in network engineering or network architecture. Certification: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or equivalent; AWS Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent. Advanced working knowledge of LAN, WAN, MAN, wireless, VoIP, cloud networking protocols, OSPF, BGP, IP, Multicast, QoS, MPLS, VPLS, IPv4, IPv6, VXLAN, and spine-and-leaf architecture. Experience architecting scalable, diverse, and complex networks; understanding of server architecture, system administration, and security; familiarity with SDLC. Automation tools and scripting experience (e.g., Python, Perl). Expert-level skill in enterprise network design including routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, VPN, load balancing, and DDI services (e.g., Aruba, Cisco, Brocade, Palo Alto, F5). Ability to translate business needs into long-term architecture solutions; strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience leading projects, including schedule management, risk assessment, and status reporting. Capability to operate in a fast-paced environment and drive innovation. Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field. Experience in complex higher education environments serving academic, medical, and research functions. Aruba Certified Mobility Expert (ACMX) or equivalent. License/Certification

CCIE or equivalent (e.g., Juniper JNCIE, Aruba ACSX); AWS Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent; Azure Solutions Architect Expert. About UCSF
