Overview
Senior Director, Campaigns and Elections — Planned Parenthood Federation of America. This role reports to the National Director of Campaigns in the Organizing, Engagement, and Campaigns team in the External Affairs division of PPFA. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care for all people, as well as the nation’s largest provider of sex education. PPFA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates and operates non-profit health centers across the U.S. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a separate 501(c)(4) organization engaged in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity in furtherance of the Planned Parenthood mission. The Senior Director of Campaigns and Elections will lead a multi-cycle strategy to build power at state and national levels and drive electoral strategy across PPFA, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and PP Votes. Responsibilities
The Senior Director of Campaigns and Elections will lead a multi-cycle strategy to build power at the state and national level, advocating for the preservation and expansion of sexual and reproductive health and rights and contributing to electoral victories in upcoming elections. Co-leads the PPFA Campaigns Team, working with in-state Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations to advance a shared agenda. Responsibilities include managing Regional and Campaigns Directors and Managers and supporting organizing, communications, policy, change management, and political programs of state organizations. Manage Planned Parenthood Votes’ and Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s Independent Expenditure program, overseeing national and statewide electoral campaigns in partnership with local advocacy and political organizations. Serve as strategist, partner, and consultant on ballot measures, legislative strategy, and long-term power building. Engagement
Directs multi-million dollar electoral IE expenditures on direct voter contact to win elections at every level of the ballot. Represents Planned Parenthood Votes to external partners, including donors, allies, and media; participate in fundraising requests as required. Builds and sustains relationships with national and state IE partners, including c3/c4 tables, donor tables, research tables, and communications/digital hubs; shares learning with experts in electoral targeting and program efficacy. Drives collaboration across national office teams to support electoral programs. Advocates for PPV/PPAF/local advocacy groups’ electoral strategy within the federation and across the electoral ecosystem. Delivery
Oversees strategy, planning, and implementation of the PPV national independent expenditure program. Leads national office teams and Regional Campaigns Directors to execute strategies, including budgeting, state-specific research, voter universe planning, earned media, volunteer growth goals, and vendor management. Makes budgeting decisions with the National Director; ensures compliance in partnership with the operations team. Oversees cross-departmental campaign efforts and supports regional campaigns teams in strategic planning with PP members and advocacy organizations. Provides guidance on campaign development, grant-making, and evaluation of state and federal campaigns; manages up to three Regional Campaigns Directors. Coordinates with other national office departments to deliver support to PP state advocacy and political organizations; assists in planning national meetings, trainings, and events. Maintains current files and weekly activity reports, tracks expenditures; travel throughout the U.S. and to national meetings/conferences; performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
At least 10 years of related political and electoral leadership, including minimum 1-2 cycles on independent expenditures. Experience managing cross-divisional teams and motivating staff; ability to build trust across the country. Strong relationship-building with diverse colleagues; grassroots organizing experience; ability to train and advise others. Proven ability to develop electoral budgets and execute strategies (direct voter contact, mail, digital). Commitment to racial equity; experience working with diverse communities; movement-building perspective. Strong communication, coaching, and analytical skills; independent work style with ability to manage priorities and work in a fast-paced operation. Passion for Planned Parenthood’s mission; self-starter with creative initiative.
