Overview

The Illinois Solicitor General is seeking one or more recent law school graduates to serve in a limited term assignment as Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Fellows. The Solicitor General represents the State of Illinois before the U.S. Supreme Court and oversees the Attorney General’s appellate practice. The Fellows support the Solicitor General’s operations and work with other attorneys on cases involving significant constitutional, statutory, and policy questions. Responsibilities

Research and advise on complex or novel legal issues. Assist with the review and preparation of recommendations for action in appellate matters, including filing or joining amicus curiae briefs and other multistate litigation. Draft briefs and other court papers, and assist with preparation for oral argument, including moot courts. Participate in and support the full range of the Solicitor General’s operations. Collaborate with other attorneys in the Office on cases before appellate or Supreme Courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Qualifications

Designed for recent law school graduates and newly admitted lawyers in their first three years of practice, including current judicial law clerks, government, academic, or public interest fellowship participants, and third-year law students. Attorneys with at least one year of post-graduate experience (e.g., clerkship or fellowship) are preferred. Applicants must be or plan to be Illinois Bar members prior to beginning the fellowship; or must plan to sit for the Illinois Bar exam before start date. Exceptional legal research and writing skills and a commitment to public service. Salary:

Salaries are commensurate with years of practice as a licensed attorney and range from $82,000 to $107,550. Application Process

The Fellowship is open to newly admitted lawyers in their first three years of practice, judicial clerks, and individuals in government, academic, or public interest fellowships. Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Illinois prior to beginning the Fellowship.
