IT Field Service IT Desktop Field Service Technician

— Full Time Typical duties include day-to-day advanced consultation, training, instruction, and troubleshooting for hardware, software, network, and related computer systems, handheld and peripheral devices. Analyzes, recommends, installs, configures, tests, and documents hardware and software configurations; provides technical documentation and user training; and assesses needs to recommend hardware and software acquisitions and upgrades. This is a mid-level support position focused on problem resolution and technical recommendations for more complex issues. The role participates in system administration with tools such as Microsoft ADUC, MS System Configuration Manager, and Tivoli Endpoint Manager (BigFix). The incumbent balances technical knowledge with high levels of customer service, supports desktop computers, laptops, printers, and related peripherals, and provides software support and training for applications on computers and mobile devices. The position requires documenting requests and resolutions, tracking hours in the help desk system, and providing status updates to customers. Flexibility for scheduling, including nights and weekends, is required. This position supports a 7x24 environment with weekend and after-hours on-call rotation. Department Description

University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading academic health sciences institution. Infrastructure Services (IS) provides 24x7 support and upholds high standards of responsiveness and reliability for IT services. The Customer Experience team within IS focuses on ensuring smooth and positive interactions between UCSF customers and IT services. The Desktop Engineering sub-team designs and maintains desktop computing environments, while the Desktop Field Services sub-team provides hands-on hardware and software support to minimize downtime. The Service Desk serves as the primary IT contact for remote solutions or escalation as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience (one year of applicable experience also considered). Two or more years in desktop support or help desk roles, supporting Windows and Macintosh computers in a complex networked environment; or equivalent experience/training. Expert proficiency with the latest MS Windows environments, Macintosh OS X, and MS Office; ability to troubleshoot Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to act as a Desktop Hardware & Software consultant and assist customers in selecting appropriate hardware and software. Ability to troubleshoot and support network connections for workstations, printers, VPN, and wireless environments. Experience configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting escalated end-user systems across Windows, Macintosh, Android, and iOS devices. Broad knowledge of enterprise system functions and the ability to troubleshoot within defined Desktop Support processes in an enterprise environment. Strong interpersonal skills and collaboration abilities; knowledge of collaboration tools and services. Working knowledge of server internals as needed for troubleshooting. Advanced skill in creating technical documentation for complex processes and applications. Experience developing and delivering formal technical training to users at various levels; ability to elicit and convey technical information clearly. General knowledge of IT-related products and services and ability to understand related business processes and security standards. Effective technical and administrative work direction and basic project management skills. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to delegate/escalate issues appropriately. Highly self-motivated, resourceful, detail-oriented, and organized; capable of meeting deadlines. Understanding of IT Service Management, incident, and request management in an enterprise environment. Ability and flexibility to support a 7x24 clinical environment with potential on-call responsibilities and to work onsite in San Francisco.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant technical certifications (Microsoft, Apple, A+, ITIL, CCNA, HDI, etc.). A valid California driver’s license may be required for travel to other sites. Experience in health care is strongly desired.
