Overview The Program Director leads improvement efforts across the service area operations to accomplish measurable business process improvements and objectives. This position may manage multiple project initiatives and will develop implementation roadmaps and facilitate action with concrete deliverables. The Program Director leads the assessment and diagnostic of problems, architects data analytics, develops performance dashboards, and leads and manages structured improvement initiatives, from large scale transformational projects, to focused improvement events. They will also act as a coach for their team and for any directors/managers they interact with to help them establish mechanisms to sustain performance after the completion of projects. The Program Director establishes collaborative relationships with stakeholders and administrators to build support for change and sustainability efforts.

The Director of Clinical Operations Improvement leads improvement efforts to redesign care processes to optimize value (improve outcomes, patient satisfaction and reduce cost), with special focus on the development of clinical processes to facilitate the flow of patients throughout the continuum of care. The director leads the assessment and diagnostic of problems, architects data analytics, develops performance dashboards, and leads and manages structured improvement initiatives, from large scale transformational projects, to focused improvement events. The director also acts as a coach for their team and for any directors/managers they interact with to help them establish mechanisms to sustain performance after the completion of projects. The Director establishes collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, other clinicians and administrators to build support for change and sustainability efforts.

Essential Duties:

Leads the development and planning of a strategy to redesign care to improve value aligning with organizational goals and objectives.

Develops dashboards and report cards to track clinical operations performance at all levels in the organization leveraging evidence-based benchmarking.

Oversees or performs data collection and/or entry processes. Recommends and/or utilizes methods and procedures for data acquisition, management and quality control, as needed. Recommends and/or utilizes statistical techniques for data analysis, as needed. Resolves problems, answers questions and provides information to facilitate process. Uses standard statistical analysis software, as needed.

Executes kaizen events and other improvement projects to reduce variation and develop care processes using evidence-based practice. Deploys resources effectively in the execution of these projects.

Develops collaborative relationships with physicians, administrative leaders and frontline staff to improve clinical operations.

Fosters a healthy team environment by coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing daily feedback and supporting their professional development.

Develops and leads training programs for physicians, staff in process improvement and project management techniques.

Attends promptly to the administrative details of the position including preparation of Performance Reports, attendance at Daily Huddles and Staff Meetings, completion of performance appraisals, and other employee-related actions.

Demonstrates and promotes leader and staff participation in learning, by sharing and acquiring latest knowledge with external organizations (peers, professional organizations).

Leads the integration of innovative technological solutions to support improvement efforts, including the Electronic Medical Record and other solutions.

Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Bachelor's degree in a related field

3 years experience leading process improvement efforts to improve clinical, operational, and financial performance in an Academic Health System

Proficient PC skills

Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing and statistical software programs

Knowledge of business (operational, clinical and financial) statistics and data analyses techniques

Ability to manage and analyze data

Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills

Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Industrial Engineering preferred

Managerial experience with direct supervisor responsibility of clinical staff and experience with ambulatory/physician practice operations

licenses such as MD, RN, CLS, PT, OTRL, PA, NP, PharmD are preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Salary: The annual base salary range for this position is $133,120.00 - $219,648.00. When extending an offer of employment, USC considers factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, legal and contractual factors, grant funding, and external market considerations.
