Senior PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, Project Kuiper
Amazon, Redmond, Washington, United States, 98052
Overview
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, with capacity and reliability designed to serve a wide range of customers including households, schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations in locations without reliable connectivity. Come solve challenging engineering problems in developing a highly reliable, power-efficient, performant, low-cost satellite bus and payload. As a Sr. PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, you will collaborate with design engineering, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing partners to drive electrical sub-system and PCBA manufacturing and delivery for Project Kuiper. You will need the ability to dive deep into technical details, apply a system-level approach to prioritization, and use data to drive manufacturability, reliability, and quality objectives across design and development teams. Export Control: Due to applicable export control laws, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Location: Redmond, WA or other Amazon Kuiper locations as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the Design Engineering team to provide PCB/PCBA DFM feedback. Identify and escalate PCBA manufacturing challenges early in product development.
Drive the PCBA Manufacturing Qualification process at the contract manufacturer. Define manufacturing readiness requirements and lead milestone reviews to ensure production readiness deliverables are complete.
Investigate and develop new manufacturing technologies and methodologies to enhance PCBA quality, reliability, throughput, and cost.
Drive closure of operational issues during pre-production builds. Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Reliability Engineering to implement and optimize manufacturing processes and improve yields for production ramp.
Investigate failures/defects in production, test, and integration. Identify and mitigate root causes to prevent recurrence as part of continuous improvement.
Identify opportunities for risk reduction and simplification of PCBA manufacturing processes.
Deliver manufacturing process capabilities including equipment capability, quality controls, materials characterization, and standardized rework practices.
Monitor success of products and processes through production ramp. Provide regular status reports of PCBAs progress from design to production.
Deploy and qualify polymerics (staking, underfill, and conformal coat) equipment for high-volume production.
About The Team The Design and Manufacturing Engineering team develops, designs, and delivers all electrical sub-systems and PCBA designs for Kuiper satellite avionic systems, communication systems, ground stations, and customer terminals. This inclusive, interdisciplinary team collaborates with core groups to guide hardware from design to production and operation.
