HarbourVest is an independent, global private markets firm with experience across global primary funds, equity and credit secondary transactions, direct co-investments, real assets and infrastructure. The firm has a large team globally and notable activity in private markets across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Secondary Team The HarbourVest Secondary Investment Team has been a pioneer and leader in the secondary market since 1986. The team recently closed one of the largest secondaries funds with 15.1B of commitments (hard cap) for Dover Street XI, plus 3.4B for secondary co-investment opportunities. The firm invests over 10B of equity per year in the secondary market across 15-20+ transactions, across GP-led and LP-led markets, and is active in the GP-led Continuation Fund market. Following the launch of its inaugural credit secondaries fund, the team is positioned in the credit secondaries market. Currently, there are over 60 investment professionals across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
Job Function & Responsibilities Secondary Investment Team Summer Analysts will be actively involved in all phases of the investment process and gain exposure to a variety of transaction types, including the purchase of limited partnership interests in private equity funds and GP-led Continuation Fund transactions involving the purchase of one or more direct company interests across both equity and credit transactions. As an industry generalist, Summer Analysts will gain exposure to companies across industries, including but not limited to Consumer and Retail, Healthcare, Financial Institutions, Industrials, and Technology.
Specific responsibilities could include:
Evaluating new private equity and credit secondary investment opportunities by conducting detailed due diligence on companies, researching industries and competitors, and interviewing general partners and company management.
Preparing financial models on companies, funds, and transactions and authoring investment committee materials as a member of deal teams.
Monitoring existing transactions by attending general partner update calls, reviewing quarterly reporting, and staying abreast of latest industry news.
Owning a summer-long project to be presented to the team at the end of the program.
Upon completion of a successful summer analyst program, there is an opportunity to secure a full-time Analyst position on the Secondary Investment Team in July 2017.

Job Requirements Candidates graduating in December 2016 or Spring 2017. Coursework and/or prior internship experience in Investments, Finance or related fields is preferred but not required.
