Base pay range: $101,200.00/yr - $148,300.00/yr. Job location: Chicago, IL. UChicago Medicine is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Vascular Surgery Department. This role provides comprehensive direct patient care management in the hospital setting within the Heart and Vascular Center, specializing in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of vascular conditions. The APP uses advanced assessment skills and knowledge of clinical therapeutics to evaluate, diagnose and manage critically ill patients. The APP orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes pharmacological agents as necessary, and maintains continuity of patient care through follow-up and adjustments to the plan of care. Responsibilities
Differentiate normal and abnormal variations for all body systems. Assess patient and family adaptation, coping skills and need for crisis or other intervention. Accurately interpret diagnostic tests. Analyze multiple data sources to make clinical judgments and determine effectiveness of the plan of care. Develop problem lists with differential diagnoses. Identify educational needs of the patient and family and assist with teaching. Incorporate assessment findings into the plan to direct patient care. Formulate a plan of care in collaboration with patient, family, physician, nursing staff, and other team members; include health care maintenance, discharge and follow-up care. Plan and implement appropriate pharmacological therapies. Perform routine diagnostic and therapeutic techniques according to established protocols and procedures for nurse practitioners. Initiate referrals based on patient and family need. Present and document the database, impression and plan of care. Promote and utilize appropriate patient care protocols for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Maintain formal and informal systems for information sharing and problem solving with unit staff and other health care personnel. Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is an APP responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The APP manages a caseload of patients with autonomous decision making in assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation, and research. The APP will provide comprehensive care to patients in inpatient settings, including the ICU and stepdown unit, and will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The APP assesses, diagnoses, initiates delegated medical treatments, performs independent interventions, evaluates care, and evaluates new inpatient consults in a timely manner. The model of care is holistic, informed by theory and research, and expanded by science and reflective practice. Education and Experience Requirements
Nurse Practitioner
Advanced degree from an accredited school/college of nursing required (or equivalent if license received before July 1, 2001). Ability to obtain Illinois advanced practice nurse (APN) license by start date required. Current license as a Registered Nurse required. AANC certification as an ACNP and/or ANP-BC required. Minimum two years of critical care clinical nursing experience, with demonstrated clinical competence in critical illness care; knowledge of clinical aspects of critical care including protocol therapy preferred. Physician Assistant
Completion of an accredited PA program required. Certification: ACLS and NCCPA; current or eligible for Illinois licensure/registration. ICU certification required; ICU experience highly preferred. Position Details
