Overview We are seeking a Buyer I/II to support and grow our supply chain operations. This role is flexible to accommodate both early-career candidates (Buyer I) and mid-level professionals (Buyer II), with responsibilities scaled accordingly. The Buyer will focus on vendor management, Asia supplier coordination, purchase order execution, and close collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing. Success in this role requires exceptional communication and negotiation skills, strong analytical ability (especially in Excel), and the ability to build relationships and trust with both external suppliers and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Vendor Management & Negotiation:
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships. Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to ensure cost competitiveness and supply continuity.
Asia Sourcing:
Manage communications with China/Asia suppliers, addressing lead times, logistics, and compliance requirements.
Purchasing Execution:
Create and track purchase orders, monitor deliveries, and expedite as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Build alliances with Engineering and Manufacturing teams; align purchasing decisions with BOMs, technical drawings, and production needs.
Analytics & Reporting:
Use Excel and ERP/MRP systems to analyze spend, track supplier performance, forecast requirements, and support decision-making.
Manufacturing Support:
Stage and track critical parts for the floor; quickly escalate and resolve shortages or supplier delays.
Inventory Coordination:
Support cycle counts, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain system accuracy.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify alternate sources, recommend cost-down initiatives, and improve procurement workflows.
Startup Agility:
Manage multiple tasks at once and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Buyer I:
1–3 years of procurement, buying, or supply chain experience (internships/co-ops considered).
Buyer II:
3–5 years of procurement or buying experience in a manufacturing or technical environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
Strong communication and negotiation skills
— able to influence, resolve conflicts, and build trust across cultures and teams.
Analytical skills with Excel
(pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, spend analysis, supplier performance tracking).
Direct experience with Asia/China suppliers
(required at Buyer II level; preferred at Buyer I).
Ability to build strong relationships with
suppliers, Engineering, and Manufacturing
teams.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and BOM-driven purchasing.
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to
juggle multiple priorities
in a startup environment.
