Senior Accountant

La Rabida Children’s Hospital is hiring a full-time Senior Accountant for the Finance department in Chicago, IL. Overview La Rabida is a mission-driven hospital dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients with complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illnesses. We seek a Senior Accountant to join the Finance team in Chicago, IL, partnering with operations to support budgeting, financial analysis, and timely financial reporting. Job Summary The Senior Accountant of hospital Operations will prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile accounts, document business transactions, and maintain a sound internal control structure for hospital operations. The role supports internal and external audit activities and acts as a key business partner to operations by providing relevant and timely financial information. The Senior Accountant will collaborate with the finance team to support budgeting, financial analysis, and ad hoc report requests. Essential Senior Accountant Functions Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP, internal policies, and monthly closing schedules. Completes month-end close responsibilities and prepares timely account analyses, reconciliations, and variance explanations to ensure accurate financial reporting. Delivers monthly financial reports and analysis to senior management, providing insights into performance against budget and actual results. Supports internal and external audits through preparation of work papers, reconciliations, and financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Recommends and implements improvements to accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and use of ERP tools. Mentors junior staff, provides backup support for accounts payable and fixed assets, and completes special projects and other duties as assigned. What We Need From You Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting Related Work Experience: 5 years of accounting work experience required, preferably in healthcare Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of GAAP and financial concepts (including revenue, accruals, inventory); skilled in financial analysis and reporting; proficient in Excel and financial systems; ability to communicate complex information clearly while ensuring accurate transaction processing and compliance with regulations.
