Responsibilities
Mentor and lead a staff of engineers in both technical and soft skills to craft a team of highly technically competent, consistent, thoughtful and customer-centric technology experts. Ensure the group adheres to principles of engineering excellence within their technical domain, applying consistency of technical execution, sharing common practices and challenges, and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning. Contribute as an engineer within a product team by designing, developing code and maintaining quality technology solutions for a product or set of products; develop own subject matter expertise. Demonstrate experience in multiple software languages, modern software methods, CI/CD, cloud, and automated testing. Hire, retain and lead a high-functioning, diverse group of engineering professionals; establish objectives and key results and drive processes across the team; manage performance and provide feedback. Manage software ownership and development from concept through continuous improvement. Lead and shape the technical vision within the product team and participate as a leader in the Discover engineering community; ensure adherence to regulatory, compliance and audit requirements. Define how technical work should be done, select tools, and establish technology, quality, experience and implementation standards within the domain. Collaborate with stakeholders to allocate team members to product teams to meet business objectives.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Business, or related field; 6+ years of experience with Information Technology, Software Engineering or related. Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years of People Leadership Experience in a hands-on development/architecture role; strong people management, communication, and teamwork skills; awareness of emerging trends in software, quality and reliability engineering; experience with Agile engineering practices. Technical: Proficiency in Java, Spring / Spring Boot, React; OpenShift, AWS, Kubernetes; database technologies (Postgres, Redis or similar); CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Github, Chef, Ansible, Nexus, SonarQube); testing (JUnit, Cucumber, JMeter or similar); Kafka or similar streaming technology; monitoring tools (Instana, AppDynamics or similar).
