Lead Small Commercial field underwriters in two regions (East and West) and report to the AVP, Small Commercial Underwriting. Serve as a technical resource and coach field underwriters on attracting and writing profitable business. Coach field underwriters on driving agency engagement and new business production through deliberate interactions with distribution partners. Partner with Small Commercial Distribution at the TM, Director, and AVP level to ensure alignment and joint success with field-underwriting-supported agencies. Actively drive regular new business pipeline conversations in partnership with Distribution. Travel to work in-person with field underwriters to build a steady flow of profitable opportunities. Successful candidates will have significant commercial underwriting experience, including larger Small or Middle Market-type accounts, and a proven ability to drive agency partnerships and engagement. Experience serving in a field role or managing associates in field roles is desired. Job Description Summary

Develops strategic plans to improve growth and profitability across lines of business on regional or national scope and communicates plans to associates. Creates business plans and priorities to meet objectives and KPIs. Identifies organizational needs and collaborates on problem solving with partners, managers, and associates. Ensures compliance with legal requirements and strategic objectives; engages with regional or national internal groups on policy discussions. Sets project priorities and workflow standards; monitors performance to ensure effective service delivery. Reviews underwriting guidelines and training; collaborates with Automation to develop underwriting support. Provides recommendations on underwriting strategy; participates in agency management and reviews; strengthens collaboration across the value chain. Supervises associate management including performance, training, staffing, and leadership development for direct and indirect reports. Consults with partners on policy and practice; shares strategic direction and plans with associates and external partners. Collaborates across customers and functions to understand business developments and resolve needs. Develops customer service standards and drives performance to those standards. Directs education of internal and external partners on underwriting practices, goals, and strategies. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships:
Typically reports to Associate Vice President of Small Commercial Underwriting. Reports: Multiple Commercial Lines Underwriting Managers. Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. MBA preferred. License/Certification/Designation:
INS and/or AU or similar; CIC or CPCU preferred. Experience:
Ten+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience; significant people leadership experience desired. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Extensive knowledge of commercial property and casualty underwriting, field underwriting operations, and day-to-day needs. Strategic agility, executive presence, strong communication, negotiation, leadership, and analytical skills. Job Conditions
