Surgical Technologist I/II/III - Regular & Per Diem Pool

Under direction, the Surgical Technologist assists in nursing care and the preparation of patients for surgery; assists in the operating room during surgery; and performs support duties to include the cleaning and maintenance of supplies, instruments, and sterilizers. In addition to a full-time work schedule, Surgical Technologists are required to be on-call at times where standby premium pay could apply.

Responsibilities
Prepares and opens surgical supplies in the operating room. Maintains the sterile field, passes surgical instruments for surgeries often in anticipation of the surgeon’s needs. Assists Circulating Nurse in the preparation of instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies. Directly assists physicians and nurses during surgical procedures. Prepares surgical suites, selects required equipment for next anticipated surgery. Ensures safe patient handling to the ill. Performs additional related duties as required. Additional duties at the Surgical Technologist III level include leading the work of less experienced staff, serving as a specialty service line liaison, and serving as an OR sterile processing liaison. Surgical Technologist I: Graduation from an accredited Operating Room Technician program; experience is preferred but not required. Surgical Technologist II: Graduation from an accredited Operating Room Technology program; one year of experience as a scrub technician. Surgical Technologist III: Graduation from an accredited Operating Room Technology program; two years of experience as a scrub technician. Necessary Special Requirements (All Levels)
Certification as a Surgical Technologist within the first year of employment. Able and willing to work at Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital, when necessary. In addition to a full-time schedule, on-call rotation with standby pay. Additional Information
Working conditions involve direct contact with patients in inpatient or outpatient settings; prolonged standing and exposure to chemicals, ethylene oxide, medications, and steam. Intermittent and Per Diem Pool classifications receive limited benefits; eligible for shift differential, standby and callback pay, and county retirement if applicable. Per Diem Pool incumbents are not guaranteed hours per biweekly period; management may relieve them when there is insufficient work. Application Process and Schedule
