Overview
Senior Director of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) to lead seven ophthalmic surgery centers across Washington and Alaska. This role provides strategic, enterprise-level leadership for clinical performance, operational efficiency, patient safety and experience, financial stewardship, information systems, and talent development. Collaborates with executive leadership and physician partners to advance ambulatory surgery.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Integration: Develop and execute a comprehensive ASC operating plan aligned with long-range strategic initiatives, clinical programs, and market expansion goals. Lead feasibility analyses and business cases for geographic growth, joint-venture opportunities, and new service lines, ensuring cultural alignment and financial viability.
ASC Operations Management: Direct day-to-day clinical and administrative operations for all ASCs, optimizing scheduling, patient flow, staffing, and supply chain efficiency. Standardize workflows, equipment, and vendor contracts; oversee perioperative EHR, inventory, and analytics platforms with data integrity and interoperability with revenue-cycle systems.
Financial Performance: Partner with the Director of Finance to develop and monitor ASC operating budgets; establish productivity dashboards, service-line profitability reports, and cost-containment initiatives; conduct monthly variance analysis; lead vendor and payer negotiations; establish multi-year capital planning; collaborate with physician leadership on block utilization; provide quarterly board presentations; champion financial accountability.
Patient Safety & Quality: Promote zero-harm culture; chair or co-chair ASC QAPI, Safety, and Policy & Procedure committees; implement and monitor corrective actions.
Provider and Staff Relations: Supervise ASC Managers; hire, coach, performance manage, and succession plan; maintain transparent communication with surgeons, RNs, CRNAs, providers, and staff.
Technology and Data Analytics: Oversee surgical technologies, ophthalmic imaging systems, and analytics platforms; use real-time analytics to guide decisions and forecast demand.
Risk Management & Emergency Preparedness: Develop and test emergency operations plans; lead incident reporting and root cause analysis to reduce risk and improve safety.
Requirements
Expertise in ASC workflows, surgical services management, and reimbursement systems.
Deep knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and payer rules.
Strong financial acumen, including budget development, cost analysis, and contract negotiation.
Proven leadership in building trust, leading cross-disciplinary teams, and mentoring leaders.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with transparent, two-way communication.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, G-Suite, EMR/PM systems, and analytics tools.
Travel up to 30% between ASC locations.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, healthcare, or related field; MBA preferred.
Eight (8) years of progressive leadership in ASC or hospital outpatient operations with multi-site management experience.
Licensure & Certifications: clinical licensure (MD or RN) is desirable (CASA).
