Blue Origin
Overview
Engine System Analyst II role at Blue Origin. The System Analysis Team focuses on engine performance and internal fluid flow problems with advanced lumped parameter models. The models define test sequences, predict test behavior, and support engine performance requirements and upgrades. The role involves performing analyses, supporting rocket engine testing, and collaborating with Chief Engineers and component owners. You will build and run analytic models of engines and test articles, using 1D fluid analysis software, and contribute to Python and Matlab tooling. You should be able to work collaboratively on problems while owning independent projects to completion. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems with a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, focused on design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Responsibilities
Build and run steady state and transient analytic models of rocket engines and test articles Support rocket engine and component level testing to ensure performance meets requirements and help define iterative upgrades Analyze internal fluid flow problems using advanced lumped parameter models Collaborate with component design engineers, chief engineers, and program leaders to develop and refine system models Develop and apply analysis processes and tools using Python and Matlab Work collaboratively with peers to solve problems, and provide mentorship to junior engineers Qualifications
Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering At least 2+ years of engineering experience (level commensurate upon experience) Experience in modeling complex fluid systems Understanding of numerical solvers and methods Understanding of fluid components like valves, turbines, pumps, and combustors Strong understanding and ability to apply engineering fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and power systems Proficient in programming and knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (Python/MATLAB/Fortran/etc.) Familiarity with data analysis and anchoring models to test data Ability to communicate analysis results to various customers and partners Self-directed and able to balance several tasks at one time Desire to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and dynamic environment Experience overseeing, guiding, and mentoring fellow engineers Passion for our mission and vision Desirable
M.S. degree or higher Knowledge of ROCETS, NPSS, GFSSP, Thermal-Desktop or equivalent system modeling software Knowledge of Fortran, Python and Matlab Experience modeling pump-fed liquid rocket engine systems Experience with cryogenic propellants Proven track record leading teams Experience with system or performance analysis across the lifecycle of a product Experience with engine qualification, verification, and testing Compensation and Benefits
Compensation ranges vary by locale; example ranges listed in the posting Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, parental leave, disability, 401(k) with company match, and Education Support Program Paid Time Off and holidays as per policy; discretionary bonuses Eligibility for benefits varies by role type Equal Employment Opportunity
