Senior Laser System Scientist

role at

ASML Foundation . Introduction to the job: We are a part of ASML, located in San Diego. ASML provides chipmakers with hardware, software and services to mass produce patterns on silicon, helping to increase the value and lower the cost of a semiconductor chip. Our key technology is the lithography system, which integrates high-tech hardware and software to control the chip manufacturing process down to the picometer. Our vision is a world in which semiconductor technology is everywhere and helps to tackle society’s toughest challenges. Job Mission: We invite you to join a dynamic Source Research team focused on conceiving and demonstrating technologies for next generations of high-power Laser Produced Plasma EUV (LPP-EUV) light sources and DUV lasers. Our light sources involve laser light amplification, high-power optical systems, laser produced plasma for EUV generation, electro-optical signal detection and algorithm-based actuation for process control. Bring your passion and expertise in applied physics, plasmas, metrology, optics, controls, lasers, and experiment design to advance these technologies. Responsibilities

Guide the development of high-level architecture definitions for laser design, including discharge type, gas flow, optical design and other areas relevant to the lasers. Lead product pathfinding from low technical readiness through system-level validation. Create models of the system (optical, gain, gas flow, etc.) to identify areas for improvement and innovation. Identify and maintain bi-directional requirements between the lasers and other system functions within Source Research and product teams. Define key scientific learning objectives and corresponding experimental design to advance laser technology. Demonstrate system-wide performance targets to meet the future technology roadmap. Develop and execute system and subsystem performance tests, analyze results, and extract actionable knowledge from sub-modules to full-system levels. Troubleshoot laser and sub-system issues to enhance system performance. Document learning and communicate knowledge to engineering and product development teams to guide product improvement and release of new product nodes. Work independently and in teams to deliver on objectives such as pursuing new knowledge, demonstrating new capabilities, or characterizing existing performance. Qualifications and Experience

PhD with 2+ years (or MS with 5+ years) in laser physics, optics, photonics, electrical engineering or related field. Proven ability to identify system-level needs and decompose them into technical directions. Understanding of laser physics, engineering and control; hands-on breadboard laser and optical system design, alignment, and performance characterization. Experience with scientific research methods and clear communication of ideas to diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to lead a team and foster inclusive contribution. Strong collaboration and communication skills; detail-oriented and hands-on within an engineering team. Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and report problems effectively in written/graphical formats. Ability to influence without formal authority and negotiate with other sectors. Onsite work ability in first, second or third shift as needed; travel may be required. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, keyboard use, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; vision requirements and clean-room environment experience may apply. Education And Experience
