About the role:

At Samsara, the Mobile Platform team is at the forefront of our mobile innovation, championing developer velocity and consistency. We craft, maintain, and evolve the core frameworks and tooling that empower every engineering team to build exceptional mobile applications for our customers. Your contributions will shape mobile-first experiences across the organization as we expand our product offerings and innovate in service of our customers. Our responsibilities span critical infrastructure, from reusable UI components and design systems to continuous integration pipelines, monitoring tools, and resilient networking and persistence layers. These foundational systems are widely adopted across applications and business units, driving impact throughout the company.

We use React Native, Typescript and Redux for our mobile apps, Golang for our backend, and GraphQL to communicate between them.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US.

In this role, you will:

Drive Technical Direction:

Contribute to architectural decisions and strategic planning for the mobile platform, influencing the technical roadmap.

Develop and Optimize:

Build and deliver high-quality, performant mobile features with clean, maintainable code and optimized performance.

Ensure Code Quality:

Promote high standards through peer reviews, testing, and best practices.

Build Reusable UI Components:

Design and implement accessible, consistent UI components to enable faster work across teams.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally:

Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate requirements into scalable mobile solutions.

Support and Mentor:

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Minimum requirements for the role:

6+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years of hands-on mobile app development with React Native in production environments.

Deep knowledge of React Native

as a mobile-first framework with understanding of architecture, native components, and limitations.

Solid testing and debugging skills

in a mobile context, including unit and integration tests.

Strong understanding of mobile architecture, performance, and platform APIs .

Proficiency in using GraphQL and Redux

for data fetching and state management.

Experience collaborating cross-functionally

with product, design, and backend teams.

Mentoring and leading technical projects

with multiple contributors.

An ideal candidate also has:

Experience with native mobile development

(Swift/Objective-C and Kotlin/Java), including bridging React Native with native code.

Performance tuning

in mobile apps with profiling and issue resolution experience.

Accessibility compliance

experience and best practices.

Familiarity with mobile CI/CD pipelines , build tools, and test automation.

Experience working with microservices .

Experience shipping and maintaining features over several years , showing long-term ownership.

Domain experience in logistics, fleet management, or industrial IoT , especially for drivers or field workers.

Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy:

Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through base salary, bonus/variable, and restricted stock units (RSUs) for eligible roles. New hire RSUs may be awarded at the time of hire, with additional RSU refresh grants potentially awarded annually.

We pay for performance; top performers may receive above-market equity refresh awards.

The base salary range for this position is $126,140 — $212,000 USD, with actual offer determined by city, role, knowledge, skills, and experience.
