Full-Time / 40 hours per week; Non-Exempt SCOPE OF POSITION: Thrift Store Manager provides supervision, oversight, and management of store operations to generate revenues which support agency administration and programs. The Manager will manage staff, volunteers as well as oversee sales, donation of merchandise, promotion of the store in the community and internal fiscal controls with efficiency, effectiveness, and courtesy. This position will ensure financial success and employee satisfaction through the attainment of measurable objectives which must be accomplished in order to meet the demands of the job. Responsibilities
Management of warehouse/distribution functions and personnel; store setup; remodels, and closures; and retail operations. Responsible for financially supporting TSA programs by producing the highest possible revenue and margin while controlling operation costs. Ensure warehouse operations and donation collections run efficiently within budget and that quality product quickly reaches the sales floor. Meet or exceed revenue budget targets; reduce expenses due to improved processes; identify and establish new business/donation opportunities; develop personnel succession plans. Oversee and manage staff, including scheduling, hiring, supervising, coaching, performance evaluation, professional development, disciplining, and terminating as necessary. Ensure proper store and donation coverage through scheduling employee breaks and meal periods; review and approve employee timecards. Conduct staff training and hold staff meetings as needed. Develop, implement, and maintain efficient production system and practices to process donations (sorting lines, bric-a-brac, etc.) in conjunction with the Warehouse Manager. Ensure appropriate sales practices according to current fiscal standards; ringing in sales, register corrections and over-rings, credit card transactions, denials or rejected cards. Safeguard cash; verify daily deposits, sales reports, and bank receipts. Safeguard safety of employees, volunteers, customers, donors, property, and buildings; report accidents, injuries, and safety hazards. Oversee facility maintenance and ensure facility cleanliness; report maintenance/repair needs to supervisor. Oversee and maintain all equipment, including the video security system. Maintain store supplies through approved vendors; stay knowledgeable about resale, thrift, consignment, and retail trends. Oversee sales floor product merchandising to enhance store appearance and inviting environment. Contribute to revenue projections meeting or exceeding financial goals. Resolve community complaints concerning operational matters (pickup services, customer service, employee conduct, etc.). Visit competition thrift/consignment stores quarterly to compare product, pricing, merchandising, etc., and make recommendations to supervisor to improve competitiveness and sales. Perform other related duties as assigned. Education and Work Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalency. Minimum two (2) years of management experience in a retail operation, merchandising and supervision of staff; experience overseeing volunteers is a plus. Minimum two (2) years of specialty retail, thrift, consignment or distribution management experience; three (3) years of experience highly desired. Customer Service Experience. Computer software/hardware experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; responsible, well organized, honest, and dependable. Adaptable to working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Maintain professional, courteous, cooperative, welcoming manner with all individuals and demonstrate respect and a positive attitude. Proficiency in operating point of sale systems; working knowledge of budgets, projections, and fiscally responsible procedures. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of general office equipment and Windows operating system. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including Saturdays. Current Alaska Driver license with acceptable driving history. Complete and submit all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. Oversee and manage staff, including scheduling, hiring, supervising, coaching, performance evaluation, professional development, disciplining, and terminating as necessary. Ensure proper store and donation coverage through scheduling breaks; review and approve timecards. Conduct staff training and meetings as needed. In conjunction with Warehouse Manager, develop, implement, and maintain efficient production system and practices to process donations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work Environment
Limited exposure to weather conditions while on pickups, deliveries, or disposal of refuse. Work is performed in a heated and ventilated setting with occasional exposure to extreme cold in winter. Personal protective equipment will be worn as required by safety program. Physical Demands
Speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, climbing, balancing.
