The Business Development Manager (BDM) is a full-time, exempt role focused on building the Hotaling & Co. brands by calling on key on- and off-premise accounts. The role emphasizes building and managing key account relationships, driving distribution and menu placements, and conducting staff trainings and specialty events. Territory: San Francisco to Healdsburg. The ideal candidate has experience in wine, spirits, and/or hospitality with strong knowledge of the San Francisco market, local connections, and community presence. Responsibilities
Drive high quality distribution of HAC brands in identified target accounts and develop new prospects within the assigned territory. Visit key accounts regularly to review brand priorities, execute events to drive sales at the account level, and train staff on brand attributes and selling points. Sustain back-bar distribution, visibility, and impactful menu placement to enhance consumer pull and rate-of-sale. Guide accounts on merchandising through shelf management and brand visibility; ensure marketing materials and displays are utilized. Develop and maintain records of sales achievements/quotas and an organized plan for on- and off-premise accounts. Build and maintain relationships with trade, bartending communities, distributors, gatekeepers and local influencers. Collaborate with distributors on brand and sales objectives through ride-withs, team meetings and sales meetings. Conduct product education and samplings, educate store personnel and consumers, and complete post-sampling recaps. Develop and manage spirits master classes for key accounts and consumers to stay top of mind in the mixology community and top accounts. Source and participate in events to generate trial and brand awareness; coordinate on- and off-premise promotions and launches. Develop specialty cocktails for brands, accounts and PR efforts; monitor competitive activity and market insights to inform strategy. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or minimum 3 years of demonstrated achievement in relevant roles. 3 years of experience in alcohol sales. Self-starting with a can-do attitude; able to work as part of a team and independently. Willingness to work full-time, non-traditional hours as required and travel within the territory and beyond. Reliable with strong work ethic and goal orientation; proven ability to develop relationships and influence others (accounts, bartenders and distributor teams). Passion for artisanal and craft spirits; resourceful, creative and organized with ability to manage timelines, budgets and event logistics. Excellent verbal and written communication; strong MS Office skills. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; physical capability to perform duties. Preferred Skills
Credibility in the local mixology/bartending community is a plus. Experience in on- and off-premise sales, marketing or promotions in the local market. Existing relationships with top accounts and with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. Benefits
