Responsibilities

Clinical Care: The NP/PA provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs as part of an interdisciplinary team. Works in inpatient, ambulatory, or outpatient settings; may provide autonomous team-based care. Obtains histories, performs exams, reviews tests, formulates and manages treatment plans. May perform procedures and prescribe treatments in accordance with guidelines and scope of practice. May function as first or second assistant on operative cases as allowed.

Patient Education & Psychosocial Support: Educate patients/families on care and resources; provide psychosocial support within a multidisciplinary team.

Information Management: Ensure accurate documentation and protect information; comply with regulatory requirements.

Quality Management: Demonstrate professionalism and comply with regulatory standards; support patient care quality initiatives.

Professional Development: Engage in projects to maintain and advance competency; may serve as a clinical resource or preceptor; participate in safety reporting and quality improvement projects.

Qualifications Education

Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Experience

Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required.

APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the affiliated medical staff and go through credentialing; evidence of current competence to practice and letters of reference may be required.

Licensure

Active PA Certification (NCCPA), Connecticut State PA License, ACLS/BLS (as applicable), and DEA license.

Additional certifications may be required (PALS/NRP) depending on position and neonatal care needs.

Additional licensure and continuing education may be required based on position profile.
